Law enforcement officials say a China Grove man made unauthorized purchases using his former employer’s company credit card.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Stephen Justus McGraw, 23, of Old Beatty Ford Road, Saturday with 34 counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense.

McGraw, who was an employee of ABC Towing, left the job on Sept. 3. The owner of the towing company contacted authorities on Dec. 20 saying a gas card that had been issued to McGraw had been used at different gas stations since he left the company.

Investigators were able to obtain video of McGraw using the credit card at multiple locations, said Rowan Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

McGraw obtained property in excess of $2,000 during the period he was using the card without permission, Sifford said.

McGraw has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. His first court appearance is today.
