Lots of big band performances coming up

Big Band Bash

The Salisbury Symphony’s popular fund-raiser, the Big Band Bash, is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 5. The doors of Hedrick Auditorium at Catawba College open at 6:45 p.m., and the band kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with the music of Benny Goodman, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller — all the big names that made “big” band music big.

The event begins with a 45-minute concert after which everyone – band members and audience – cross the patio to the Crystal Ballroom to continue the music, this time with room for dancing, hors d’oeuvres and conversation. Symphony Board member Ron Smith and his wife Marilyn have promised ample seating for everyone and the return of popular caterer The Buttercup Café & Catering.

“We want to celebrate David Hagy’s twenty-fifth season with the Salisbury Symphony so this Big Band Bash will be extra-special,” said Dr. Smith. “What a great way to start the New Year off…on the right foot! Speaking of ‘right foot,’ for those who have tickets, free dance lessons are offered by Diane Moghrabi again.”

Tickets are now available for purchase for $75 each, $54 of which is tax-deductible. For more information or to order tickets, call the Symphony office at 704-637-4314.
