The Sam Moir Christmas Classic will be played on Dec. 27-29, with six games daily at Catawba.

The boys and girls teams from the six Rowan public schools and Davie County will participate.

Admission is $7 per day for adults and $3 for ages 5-12.

Davie’s boys will be a No. 1 seed.

West Rowan’s girls can clinch the No. 1 seed if they win against South Rowan tonight. West is 9-0. Carson is 9-1.

• In NPC games tonight, South Rowan is at West Rowan and East Rowan battles West Iredell.

In the SPC, A.L. Brown battles Central Cabarrus.

8th-grade hoops
North Rowan Middle’s boys rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit and beat West Rowan Middle 51-48.

Joseph Scott scored 18 points for the Mavericks. Terry Cathcart had 12, Chris Clodfelter had seven, and Ronnie Bryant added six.

Kortez Weeks led the Bulldogs (7-3) with 18 points. Jovon Quarles scored 11. Armoni Hogue scored seven, and Nick Warren had six.

Rodney Howell led the Bulldogs on the boards.

•Knox’s girls won 42-39 in a big matchup with Mooresville.

Kiilantra Mashore’s 12 points led the Trojans.

Tyzarea Alexander scored 10, Niah Spratt had eight, and Deztane Hightower scored six for the Trojans.

For the Imps, Sehrena Hull scored 14, and Sara Vanhoy scored 12.

•Southeast’s boys edged China Grove 32-31.

Lawrence Robinson led the Patriots (5-5) with 10 points. Brenden Westbrook scored nine, and Daxton Miller had six.

Dillon Norton led China Grove with 13 points.

Prep swimming
East Rowan’s girls topped Statesville 142-103, and East’s boys beat the Greyhounds 139-98.

Mid. school wrestling
Erwin beat Corriher-Lipe 72-24, and Southeast beat China Grove 57-27.

East YMCA hoops
The last chance to register for East Rowan YMCA basketball for boys, ages 7-14, is this Saturday. Contact Joe Finney at 704-279-1742.

East Rowan camps
East Rowan baseball’s skills camps are coming up in January.

The hitting camp costs $30 and will be held on Jan. 12 from 1-4 p.m.

The fielding and catching camp costs $20 and will be held on Jan. 19 from 1-3 p.m.

The pitching camp costs $20 and will be held on Jan. 26 from 1-3 p.m.

Players can attend all three camps for $65.

Camps are at Staton Field, weather permitting. Register online at and pay the day of the camp.

Hurley YMCA
The J.F. Hurley YMCA is registering for boys basketball for ages 7-14 until Jan. 6.

The league is for instruction and fun and is for all skill levels. The YMCA also will be holding a clinic for boys and girls ages 5-6.
