Winds prevent Memphis Belle takeoff
High winds prevented the World War II-era bomber “Memphis Belle” from departing Rowan Regional Airport today.
A large crowd that had turned out to watch the B-17 take off at noon had to leave disappointed.
The airplane has been at the airport for weeks undergoing restoration work. It has attracted many visitors, including veterans who served in the war.
The departure has been rescheduled for Saturday afternoon, weather permitting.
