SPENCER — Spencer elected leaders and LandTrust officials will meet at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the master plan for Spencer Woods.
Aldermen are expected to vote on the master plan during their regular monthly board meeting, which will follow at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be held in Town Hall.
Spencer is buying Spencer Woods, a 42-acre forest within walking distance of downtown, from the LandTrust for Central North Carolina with a $200,000 state grant. The LandTrust saved the woods from clear cutting last year.
LandTrust officials will discuss highlights of the 39-page master plan with aldermen during the workshop and answer questions.
A copy of the draft master plan can be found on the town’s website at www.ci.spencer.nc.us .
Also on Tuesday’s agenda:
• Overview of the town audit
• Appointment to the RowanWorks Economic Development Commission board
• Appointment to the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Metropolitan Planning Organization
• Town Manager Larry Smith’s report
• Mayor’s report
• Public comment
In other Spencer news, the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner has been postponed to the spring due to conflicts with the Dec. 18 date.
Town employees have received a longevity bonus.
The new Spencer Police patrol car has arrived, and the department is working on graphics and upfitting, including lights, radio and cage. The department has continued to enhance its professional image under the leadership of Chief Michael James, Town Manager Larry Smith said.
The next Small Town Main Street meeting is 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Everyone is invited.
Before Tuesday’s meetings, Smith will have office hours at 6 p.m. today for any aldermen who would like to stop by with questions or concerns. Office hours are open to the public.
