Davie boys still unbeaten

The Davie County boys basketball team improved to 6-0 Friday in a 83-61 win against Alexander Central.
Cody Martin had a game-high 27 points and Caleb Martin scored 21 in a home nonconference tilt. The War Eagles jumped out to a 52-26 lead at halftime.
“We had 18 assists as a team and that’s a good sign when you’re scoring off assists,” Davie coach Mike Absher said. “We’ve got a long way to go but I’m pleased with where we are.”
• Davie’s girls (2-4) lost 71-55 to Alexander Central.
Haleigh Hatfield (17 points), Madison Zaferatos (14) and Amy Steller (11) scored in double figures for the War Eagles.

North Hills
The North Hills varsity boys lost to Evelyn Mack Academy 94-46.
Leonard Murdock led the Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds. Chris Taylor had nine points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Matt Ward scored nine for the Eagles.
Ameer Jackson and Marcus Johnson scored 20 each for Evelyn Mack.

Sacred Heart
The Sacred Heart varsity boys basketball team defeated Concordia 41-22 to improve to 4-4 overall. Justin Boyd scored 11 points and had six steals. Will Casmus scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Michael Childress scored five points and had seven steals.
Sacred Heart will play next on Monday at Our Lady of Mercy.

South Rowan senior Tiffany Brooks signed with Catawba Valley Community College on Friday.

Prep swimming
Bradley Bettis won the 200 freestyle race in South’s win against Mount Pleasant.
• The South Rowan High School swim team split a meet against South Iredell on Friday at the J. Fred Corriher Jr. YMCA. The Raider men prevailed 185-92, while the women suffered their first loss of the season, falling to South Iredell 160-142.
Faith Casswell (200 free), Nicole Mauldin (200 IM), Taylor Kluttz (50 Free) and Casey Pruitt (100 Fly) were all individual winners for the Raider women.
On the boys side, Dillon Parker (50 free), Bryan Bettis (100 free), Jeremiah Bradshaw (500 free), Dylan Goodman (100 backstroke) and Jonnie Lefebvre (100 breaststroke) all won events for South’s boys. The Raiders swept the relays. Goodman, Lefebvre, Bradshaw and Parker won the 200 medley relay. Bonner Buchanan, Goodman, Luke Rary and Parker won the 200 freestyle relay. Bradshaw, Bettis, Dustin Jenkins and Rary won the 400 freestyle relay.
The Raiders return to action on Tuesday against West Rowan and Carson.

Middle school wrestling
Southeast beat Corriher-Lipe 76-21 and topped Knox 69-21. See Scoreboard.

8th-grade basketball
Corriher-Lipe’s girls beat West Rowan Middle 32-12.
The Yellow Jackets’ defense led by Camden Carlton, Alyson Brewer and Alexcis Cameron forced 42 turnovers.
Keirsten Morgan scored 10 points for Corriher-Lipe (3-4). Kallie Ketchie had eight points. Hannah Lambert had five blocks.
Debrayha Turner led the Bulldogs with four points.
• West Rowan Middle’s boys played a strong second half and beat Corriher-Lipe 42-19.
Armoni Hogue led the Bulldogs (5-1) with 14 points. Jagger Love scored 10, and Rodney Howell had six.
Jovon Quarles had seven rebounds, and Howell pulled down six.
Matthew Mills scored seven points for the Yellow Jackets.
• Micah Furr’s 16 points led Erwin’s girls to a 43-28 win against North Rowan Middle.
Breya Philpot had 12 points, 17 rebounds, five steals and four blocks for the Eagles (7-1). Destiny Jackson scored eight points. Ashlyn Mills had five points and eight rebounds.
Priscilla Oglesby led the Mavericks (3-3) with eight points. Brianna White scored six, and Dekniveya Joyner and Mia Thompson scored five each.
• North Rowan Middle’s boys beat Erwin 38-27 behind Joseph Scott’s 19 points. Jericho Alexander scored six for the Mavericks (2-4).
Franklin Downing led Erwin (4-4) with eight points. Jonathan Brindle scored seven, and Lucas Morton added five.
