Free Irlen Syndrome mini-seminar Saturday

There will be a free mini-seminar about Irlen Syndrome this Saturday, Dec. 8 at the J.F. Hurley Family YMCA from 10 a.m. to noon.

The first 25 people will receive a free screening and $10 Irlen Bucks toward a full screening test per family.


Irlen Syndrome, also known as Scotopic Sensitivity System (SSS) is a visual perception problem that affects how the brain perceives visual information. Those who suffer with Irlen Syndrome may have problems with academic and work performance and ability to concentrate. Those affected have difficulty reading because they see the printed page differently, with words “jumping” off the page. Irlen Syndrome is undetected by standard visual testing. Treatment for the problem involves using specially formulated colored overlays or filters worn as glasses to minimize perception problems.

Certified Irlen screener, Dr. Terry Cassell will talk about the syndrome and how color alone can make a life-changing difference in one’s life.
