SALISBURY – Authorities handed out 84 tickets during a No Need to Speed campaign Wednesday.
Salisbury Police Capt. Melanie Thompson said the project aimed to slow lead-footed motorists near the major thoroughfares of Jake Alexander Boulevard, Statesville Boulevard and Interstate 85.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, China Grove and Rockwell police departments and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted in the project.
“We typically do this about four times a year,” Thompson said. “This was our Halloween campaign.”
Officers wrote 47 speeding tickets, four driving-while-license-revoked tickets and a no-operator’s-license citation, among other infractions.
Thompson said the campaigns typically help to reduce speed in the following weeks. Motorists can expect to see continued projects through the holidays, she said.
“We do see a reduction in speed, especially on the main thoroughfares,” Thompson said.
Salisbury Police will also assist with other law enforcement departments in the county for similar campaigns.
