KANNAPOLIS – The city of Kannapolis will begin loose leaf and bagged yard waste collection service on Monday, Oct. 22. This free curbside service will be offered every other week through Friday, March 8, 2013. During this time, yard waste and limbs are collected on the same day as loose leaves, which may be on a different schedule than regular solid waste collection.
Leaves must be placed at the curb or along the ditch line, not in ditches, in rows parallel with street by 7 a.m. on the day of collection to ensure collection on the scheduled day. Leaves mixed with limbs, other yard waste, gravel, glass or other solid matter will not be collected and leaves in garbage containers will not be collected. Leaves must be clear of water meters and fences and placed on the street side of retaining walls. Leaves should also be clear of sidewalks and the street.
Since yard waste and leaves are banned from landfills by North Carolina state law; these items can not be placed in garbage containers. The city of Kannapolis provides pickup of these items for mulching and composting. After the loose leaf collection season is over, leaves must be bagged for collection.
