William B. Baker and Sybil Penninger Baker are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  They were married Aug. 31, 1962, at Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ, Mount Pleasant, by the late Rev. Charles E. Hiatt.
Mr. Baker retired from Meter Services Division of Salisbury-Rowan Utilities Services in 2004, and Mrs. Baker retired from Rowan County Department of Social Services in 1996 and later worked part time in the office at First Presbyterian Church where she retired in 2011.
The Bakers have one daughter, Elizabeth Baker Rivers. She and her husband, Bryan A. Rivers, and their children, Cameron and Braxton, reside in Maryland.
On Friday evening, Aug. 31, the Bakers were guests of some members of their wedding party at dinner at Pinocchio’s Restaurant. The celebration continued on the afternoon of Sept. 1, when the couple was honored with a reception in Fellowship Hall, First Presbyterian Church, Salisbury. A highlight of the reception was the cutting and serving of the wedding cake which was a replica of their wedding cake of 50 years ago.
