Police charged three Canadian men who were at Catawba College for a tennis tournament with breaking into a building on the campus early Wednesday.
A Salisbury Police officer was sitting in the parking lot of Omwake-Dearborn Chapel when the fire alarm sounded at Stanback Hall.
Three men ran out of the dormitory. Police found the men a short time later.
Each is charged with breaking and entering a building and giving false fire alarms, both misdemeanors. The men charged are:
– Barret Andrew McKay, 22, of 104 Sandstone Drive, Calgary.
– Timothy Michael Kernahan, 21, of 407 Superior Ave. SW, Calgary
– Dana Matthew Pallesen, 20, of 206 Scarboro Ave. SW, Calgary.
The three tried to break into a locked office and pulled a fire alarm, the police report said.
The incident occurred at 3:05 in the morning.
The report indicates the men may have been intoxicated.
They are scheduled to appear in court March 3.
On Tuesday, Catawba played a tennis team from the University of Alberta. A police report said the men are students at the Canadian university. They were released to their coach, Corey Stewart.
Catawba Dean of Students Dan Sullivan confirmed Thursday that nothing was taken from the building.
“This was side effects of alcohol and intoxication,” he said.
Sullivan said the men had visited the campus that night, but were not staying on campus.
“There was minimal damage. Our main concern is that restitution is made,” he said.
