Allen receives Eagle Award
Thomas Foust Allen of Rockwell received his Eagle Scout Award Oct. 10, 2009, at Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury during the celebration of Troop 350ís 50th Anniversary. Scoutmaster Harold Driver presented the award. Thomas is the 42nd Eagle Scout for Troop 350 in the past 50 years, which is sponsored by Rockwell Civic Club.
A Senior Patrol Leader and recipient of 25 Merit Badges, Thomasís Eagle project was a peanut butter drive for Rowan Helping Ministries, with Thomas and his troop collecting over 300 pounds of peanut butter.
Thomas also received Outstanding Achievement recognition at the celebration by the U.S. Submarine Veterans and was made an Honorary Submariner by the Carolina Piedmont Base of U.S. Submarine Veterans.
The son of Jean and Bruton Allen of Rockwell, Thomas is a senior at East Rowan High School and is in a family of Eagle Scouts. His brother, Daniel, received his award in 2006 and his father is also an Eagle Scout.
Bostian - Wingler
LEXINGTON ó Elizabeth Nicole Bostian of Lexington and Christopher Dwayne Wingler of Kannapolis were united in marriage Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at the home of the brideís parents.
The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Clapp officiated the 3 p.m. ceremony, which was followed by a reception.
The bride was escorted by her father, Raymond Bostian, and attended by her sister, Stephanie Bostian Mesimer of Lexington, as matron of honor. Her bridesmaids included sister of the groom Cassidy Wingler of Kannapolis and Elizabeth Edwards of Salisbury.
Father of the groom Larry Wingler stood as best man. Serving as groomsmen were brother of the groom Kendall Wingler of Kannapolis and Ryan Mesimer of Lexington.
Kynley Simerson was flower girl, and Landon Mesimer was ring bearer, both of Lexington. Addison Rabon of Kannapolis was miniature bride, and Luke Mesimer of Lexington was miniature groom.
Guest register attendant was Mrs. Tisha Loflin of Lexington, and program attendant was Mrs. Elaine Bass of Mooresville.
The bride is the daughter of Raymond and Linda Bostian of Lexington and the granddaughter of the late Bernie and Ann Bostian of ?China Grove and the late Luther and Helen Faggart of Mount Ulla. A 2004 graduate of West Davidson High School, Elizabeth received a Bachelorís degree in Political Science from Catawba College in 2008, majoring in pre-law, where she graduated cum laude. She was on the presidentís and deanís lists all four years at Catawba. She is a Financial Adviser at Bostian Retirement.
The groom is the son of Larry and Ann Wingler and the grandson of Gladys and the late Otis Rabon and Buck and Jody Wingler, all of Kannapolis. A 2005 graduate of South Rowan High School, Chris received a Bachelorís degree in Communications from Catawba College in 2009. He is Marketing Director at Bostian Retirement.
Following a wedding trip in Antigua, the couple will live in Lexington.
Lunsford - Joyce
Mr. and Mrs. William J. Lunsford of Kannapolis are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Angela Dawn Lunsford of Concord, to William Robert Joyce Jr. of Stoneville.
Angela is a graduate of South Rowan High School, Central Piedmont Community College and Guilford Technical Community College. She is a Registered Dental Hygienist.
Billy is the son of William R. Joyce Sr. of Stoneville and Dorothy Kendrick Joyce of Walnut Cove. A graduate of Stoneville High School, UNC-Asheville, UNC-Greensboro and Durham Technical Community College, he is a North Carolina optician.
The wedding is Dec. 27 at Bethpage United Methodist Church in Kannapolis.
Ragan - Evans
DANVILLE, Va. ó Lauren Ashley Ragan and Joshua Michael Evans, both of Eden, were united in marriage on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at College Park Baptist Church. Reverend Jack Darida of Quaker Gap Baptist Church in King, N.C., officiated the service.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven W. Ragan of King. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2007 and is a 2003 graduate of West Stokes High School. She is currently employed as an RN 2 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Evans of Eden, N.C. He is a 2002 graduate of John Motley Morehead High School and is currently employed as a Firefighter 2 with the City of Greensboro.
The brideís maternal grandparents are Mrs. Harriett S. Britt of Salisbury, N.C., and the late Daniel W. Britt. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James W. Ragan, Jr. of Kannapolis, N.C. Mrs. Helen Phillips of Concord, N.C., is her maternal great-grandmother. Lauren honored her great-grandmother by wearing in her shoe an English sixpence dated 1911, the year of Mrs. Phillipsí birth.
The groomís maternal grandparents are Mr. Roy Frazier of Eden and the late Mrs. Bunnie Frazier. His paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Evans.
Lauren was escorted by her father, and given in marriage by her parents. She wore an ivory, satin, A-line gown with a ruched V-neckline, V back and a chapel length train. Champagne lace and crystal beaded embroidery accented the empire waistline and the edge of her fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of orange Asiatic lilies and roses, ivory calla lilies and alstromarium, and hypericum berries, along with a white lace handkerchief from Windsor, England.
The matron of honor was Mrs. Abbie Clark of Stanley, N.C., and the maid of honor was Miss Michelle Bennett of King, NC. Bridesmaids included the groomís sister, Miss Beth Evans of Eden, N.C; the brideís cousins, Miss Sunni Goodson of Rockwell, N.C., and Miss Summer Goodson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Mrs. Lauren Davis of Marshville, N.C.; Mrs. Amy Chaney and Miss Kimberly Davis, both of Eden, N.C. Honorary bridesmaid, Miss Katie Gordon of Charlotte, N.C., kept the guest register.
The groomís father, Mr. Randy Evans, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Jimmy Dale Marley of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; Mr. Brandon Chambers of Charlotte, N.C.; Mr. Mark Hallman of Providence, N.C.; Mr. Drew Aaron of Whitsett, N.C.; Mr. Brandon Fisher, Mr. Matt Fisher and Mr. Eli Roach, all of Eden, N.C.
Ushers included the brideís brother, Mr. Ryan Ragan of King, N.C.; Mr. Josh Balogh and Mr. Chase Thacker of Eden, N.C.; the groomís cousin, Mr. Blake Frazier of Albemarle, N.C.; and Mr. Zack Scott of Daytona Beach, Fla.
The flower girl was Miss Tyson Kimrey of Eden. Ring bearers were twin cousins of the groom, Masters Matthew and Michael Frazier of Axton, Va.
The wedding vocalist was Mrs. Liz Everitt of Stoneville, N.C. The wedding directors were Ms. Jennifer Walker and Ms. Karen Hardy of Danville, Va. Floral arrangements were provided by Mr. and Mrs. Clint Hartgrove of King, N.C. Misty Felde of Images by Misty in Reidsville, N.C., was the photographer; and videographer was Rev. Steven Norris of King, N.C.
Candles were lit in the entryway of the church in loving memory of the groomís maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bunnie Frazier; the groomís paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Evans; and the groomís cousin, Mr. Mark Evans.
Following the ceremony, a reception hosted by the brideís parents was held at The Danville Community Market in Danville, Va. The uncle of the bride, Mr. Barron D. Goodson of Rockwell, N.C., drove the couple to the reception in a restored 1934 Ford DeLuxe four-door Sedan. The car was reminiscent of the one driven away 61 years ago from the wedding of the brideís paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ragan.
Party Reinforcers of Stoneville, N.C., provided the music and entertainment. The event was catered by Dickeyís Barbecue Pit of Danville, Va., and the wedding cake was made by Mrs. Shirley Gordon of King, N.C.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groomís parents on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at the Leaksville Firemenís Clubhouse in Eden, N.C.
A shower was given in the coupleís honor by Lisa Evans, mother of the groom, and Jan Griggs, friend of the groom, on June 27, 2009, at Draper Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Eden, N.C. On Aug. 2, 2009, friends and family of the bride hosted a shower at Quaker Gap Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in King, N.C. Families of the bride hosted a luncheon and shower at the Cabarrus Country Club in Concord, N.C., on Aug. 22, 2009.
After a honeymoon trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., the couple are residing in Eden, N.C.
Ritchie 58th Anniversary
William ìBillî Ritchie and Ruby Carpenter Ritchie of Salisbury celebrated their 58th anniversary Oct. 9, 2009, with a dinner for family and friends at Chef Santos By Goodfellas. The Ritchies were married Sept. 5, 1951, in South Carolina.
Bill is the owner of Ritchieís Steamway Carpet and Tile Cleaning, and Ruby retired from Belk in 1997.
The coupleís children are Patty Ritchie of Salisbury, Kay Peeler of Statesville and the late Ray Ritchie. Their grandchildren are Josh Peeler and wife Brook of Lexington, Matt Peeler Sr., currently at East Carolina University, and the late Nathan Peeler. Their great-grandchildren are Kaleb and Pressley Peeler of Lexington.
Troutman - Hartley
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Troutman of Rockwell are pleased to announce the engage?ment of their daughter, Julie Marie Troutman, to Kristopher David Hartley, both of Lenoir.
Julie is the granddaughter of John and Julia Allen of Hinton, W.Va., and the late Marie Hill Weaver of Rock?well; and the great-granddaughter of Lucinda Vest Upton of Jumping Branch, W.Va. A 2004 graduate of East Rowan High School and 2008 summa cum laude graduate of Appala?chian State Univer?sity, she is a fifth-grade teacher with Caldwell County Schools.
Kristopher is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Hartley and the grandson of David and Sharon Herman and Mrs. Helen and the late J.C. Hartley, all of Lenoir. A 2003 graduate of Hibriten High School and 2009 graduate of Appalachian State University, he is a personal trainer at Watauga Medical Center Wellness Center.
The wedding is Nov. 28 at Grace Bible Church of Rockwell.
Volkmer - Foster
SALISBURY ó Sarah Katharine Volkmer and Steven Michael Foster were united in marriage on October 17, 2009, on the farm of the brideís father near Rockwell. The marriage and reception festivities followed an ìEastern Fusionî theme. The 3:30 p.m. marriage was officiated by Satguru Shakti Subramanian.
The bride was escorted by her father, Dr. Donald D. Volkmer. The vocalist was the brideís sister, Lauren E. Volkmer. Following the ceremony, the guests were entertained by a drum and string duo, belly dancers and fire dancers after sundown.
The bride is the daughter of Karl and Lynn Hales of Salisbury and Don and Debra Volkmer of Spencer and the granddaughter of Mrs. Jane D. Volkmer of Albuquerque, N.M. and the late Mr. Leo Donald Volkmer, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Copony of Salisbury, Md. The groom is the son of Elaine Foster of Damascus, Md., and Michael and Rhona Foster of Glenside, Pa., and the grandson of Mrs. Alberta Koski of Rockledge, Fla. and the late Mr. Lauri Koski, and Mr. Patrick Foster of Philadelphia, Pa. and the late Mrs. Nancy Foster.
The bride graduated in 2000 from West Rowan High School and attended Guilford Tech, majoring in culinary arts. She is currently employed by RTI Food Brokers as a merchandising and sales assistant and is a dance-cardio instructor in Charlotte.
The groom graduated in 1995 from Damascus High School in Damascus, Md., attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, majoring in information systems management. He is currently employed by TIAA-CREF retirement/investment firm in Charlotte as Senior IT Engineer.
Following a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple will make their home in Charlotte.
