CONCORD — An 85-year-old man died Tuesday when a tractor-trailer ran a red light and struck the man's Jeep.
The Concord Police Department said Lee Jerome Foster, of Concord, died in the 11:15 a.m. accident on the U.S. 601 Bypass and Woodland Drive.
Police charged Mariusz Feliks Siwiec, 51, of Ontario, Canada, with misdemeanor death by vehicle. He was not injured.
Witnesses told police officers that Siwiec's 2005 Kenilworth tractor-trailer was traveling south on the 601 Bypass, also known as Warren C. Coleman Boulevard, and ran a red light at the intersection.
Police said Siwiec had time to stop for the red light, and Foster had pulled his 2001 Jeep Cherokee into the intersection. Foster was crossing the intersection to meet a friend at Troutman's Barbecue for lunch. Police did not provide an address for Foster.
The tractor-trailer struck the passenger side of the Jeep.
The Concord Police Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation of the accident.
