SALISBURY — Rail Walk Studios and Gallery has a new group show, “Water,” which will be in the gallery from April 4 through May 25.

Water as a theme will be explored through painting, sculpture and weaving.

An artists reception to open the show will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5. It is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Artists showing will be Ingrid Erickson, Sharon Forthofer, Karen Frazer, Elizabeth McAdams, Liese Sadler and Marietta Smith. Two new Rail Walk studio artists, Catherine Cross and Kenneth Koskela, will also be showing, along with returning studio artist, Patt Legg.

A North Carolina artist hailing from Greensboro, visual artist Cross has long been influenced by her southern upbringing and the natural world around her.

Continuing to create, inspire, educate and advocate for the arts has been her life’s mission. She works in all mediums and those more so with multi processes like printmaking, letterpress, photography, clay, collage, writing and installation.

Legg paints landscapes, still life and portraits.

For years the classical style has been a favorite of hers. The use of intense light against a rich darkness, the depth and mystery, is what she likes.

Often several layers and stages of painting are employed in this process to achieve the desired impact in a still life.
