An N.C. Dept. of Transportation plan shows the location of a proposed off-ramp from Interstate 85, as well as the location of the current exit which will be closed to build a new entrance to the Lowe's Home Improvement shopping center. The new ramp would require homes on Winding Brook Lane to be demolished, and neighbors fear property values will plummet. Photo credit: NCDOT.

This gravel alley is officially Jaycee Road, but it may become part of a new off-ramp from southbound Interstate 85. Under the proposal put forward by the N.C. Dept. of Transportation this week, eight homes whose yards back onto this road will be demolished for the expanded interchange. Some homeowners favor this arrangement; others have vowed to fight.
