Rowan County seniors showed off their skills, strutted their stuff — and some pirouetted — at the annual SilverArts festival Friday.
SilverArts is part of the Salisbury-Rowan Senior Games and moves the action from sports fields and game courts to dance floors and exhibition halls. It includes performing arts such as dance and singing, visual arts like painting and photography, heritage arts including quilting and jewelry making, and literary arts.
One work on display Friday recalled an artist lost just this week. Wood carver Terry Brewer was working on a bald eagle carving when he died in a tree-cutting accident Tuesday.
Organizer Phyllis Loflin-Kluttz said more than 300 people age 55 and older registered to participate in SilverArts this year, including a group of four men who performed a dance from “Swan Lake” — complete with tutus.
