All-conference teams for the 1A Yadkin Valley Conference have been announced.
The All-YVC football team includes North Rowan offensive lineman Will Robertson, receiver Sakil Harrison, running back Jareke Chambers, returner/DB Kasaun Coney, defensive linemen Cecil McCauley and Oshon West and linebacker Xavier Robinson.
All-YVC Honorable Mentions includeNorth Rowan's Alexis Archie.
North Rowan's Joe Nixon was runner-up to Albemarle's Danny Akins for YVC Coach of the Year honors.
Albemarle QB Deon Christian was named YVC Player of the Year. Runner-up was West Montgomery QB Caleb Drake.
Other members of the All-YVC football team are Albemarle's Roger Prince, Quatin Taylor, Timmie White, Marquez Brown, Kevin McKinney, Lee Autry, Fuquan Wiggins and Martinus Crump; South Davidson's Wyatt Beck; South Stanly's Paul Rinehardt, Devante Hamilton, Josten Horton, Jordan Starnes and Austin Smith; West Montgomery's Jake Thompson, Walker Harrison, James Thompson, Matt Harkins and Brad Absher; Chatham Central's Victor Stinson, Jeremy Kerr and Zach Burke; East Montgomery's Margys Chambers and Ahmad Baldwin, and North Moore's Kyle Kidd.
• North Rowan's Dakota Honeycutt made the All-YVC tennis team, and North's Daisy Lemke was Honorable Mention.
Player of the Year was Gray Stone's Meghan Hedgepeth, with Gray Stone's Libby Fowler the runner-up.
Gray Stone's Brooke Herlocker, Caby Styers, Rachel Poston and Jordan DeJaco also made All-YVC. Gray Stone's Jeff Walter was runner-up for coaching honors to Chatham Central's Lynda Burke.Davis Richards, a South Rowan sophomore, won the 14-15 division of the George Holliday Junior Golf Tournament held over Thanksgiving weekend at Myrtle Beach National.
Richards shot 70-79-74 - 223 to win by one stroke over Harrisburg's Davis Kiger.
Richards placed fifth among all golfers in the 122-player field.
Richards will be one of the local golfers competing in the Donald Ross Junior event to be held at Pinehurst Resort in December.
• Michael Childress won the 12-13 age group in the National Junior Golf Tour Thanksgiving Classic held at Rock Barn in Conover. Childress shot a first-round 78 Saturday to take a five-shot lead. He shot another 78 on Sunday and won by nine strokes.
•The McCanless Couples played with a four-man Captain's Choice format. Members of the winning team were Frank Foster, Bryan Reynolds, David Huneycutt and Treva Honeycutt.
Walt Kincaid, Kim Kincaid, Don Goodnight and Tom Earnhardt placed second. Honeycutt won closest to the pin. Foster won longest putt.Hickory Ridge catcher Jake Barbee signed with Liberty. A four-year varsity player and a N.C. Scholar Athlete, Barbee was All-SPC and Honorable Mention All-America.
Barbee broke Hickory Ridge's school single-season record for batting average as a junior by hitting .536.
Hickory Ridge eliminated East Rowan frome the 3A playoffs last season but lost to South Rowan.The Rowan County Youth Football League completed its 25th season with playoffs at South Rowan.
In the fourth-grade all-star game, the South Rowan/Carson/Rockwell team beat the West Rowan all-stars 26-0.
In the 3rd-4th grade Super Bowl, the North Rowan Caaliers beat the Granite-Faith Chargers 20-0 to finish an undefeated season.
In the all-star game for sixth-graders, the South/Carson/Granite-Faith team beat the West Rowan all-stars.
In the 5th-6th grade Super Bowl, the Rockwell Black Knights won 48-35 against the North Cavaliers.
Deiontae Gallmon scored six touchdowns for Rockwell in the championship game. Defensive back Sam Wall scored one TD. Jake Holshouser scored a two-point conversion. QB Taylor Seamon also stood out on offense.
Defensive standouts for the Black Knights included Hunter Eagle, Justin Simpson, Zac Simpson and Mark Spry.
The Black Knights were coached by Randall Kepley. They won the regular season with a 5-1 record.Hurley YMCA Warriors competed in the Footlocker Cross Country Championships South Regional held at Charlotte's McAlpine Park.
The South Regional includes 14 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Almost 2,000 athletes competed.
Top-30 finishers received medals and a certificate.
In the 10-under boys 3k race: Noah Julian, 9, was 21st in 13:13. Matthew Burroughs, 8, was 26th in 13:33. Eli Julian, who just turned 7, was 33rd in 14:09. Caleb Smith, 8, was 43rd in 15:06. Nate Shaffer, 8, was 44th in 15:39. Jaxon Evans, 10, was 46th in 16:15.
In the 10-under girls 3k race: Leah Cressler, 10, was 14th in 14:10. Emma Calvert, 8, was 19th in 15:10.
In the 11-12 boys 3k race:
Andrew Burgess, 12, was sixth in 10:45.
In the 11-12 girls 3k race:
Aubree Cain, 11, was 41st in 14:42. Lauren Dorman, 11, was 46th in 15:06.
In the 13-14 boys 3k race:
Jonah Evans, 13, was 73rd in 12:13. Coby Weant, 12, was 74th in 12:16. Conrad Shuggart, 14, was 76th in 12:21.
In the 13-14 girls 3k race:
Julianna Evans, 14, was 63rd in 14:37. Lindsay Dorman, 14, was 64th in 14:49.Erwin's girls topped Corriher-Lipe 30-18.
Breya Philpot had 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Eagles (4-0). Ashlyn Mills had 11 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Destiny Jackson had six points and six steals. Micah Furr had five points and six steals.
Keirsten Morgan scored 12 points for the Yellow Jackets (1-3).
• Erwin's boys beat Corriher-Lipe 51-19. Datavian Davis scored 14, and Lucas Morton had 12 for the Eagles (3-1), Kameron Caldwell and Sean Perry scored six points each.
Dawson Larrimore scored seven for the Jackets (0-4).
