Over the weekend, East Rowan senior Corbin Shive signed paperwork that will make him part of Charlotte's baseball program.

Shive celebrated Monday with other early signers on the Charlotte Panthers, a powerhouse showcase team that includes some of the state's best prospects.

Shive will join former teammates Ross Steedley and Justin Roland at Charlotte.

Shive, a right-handed pitcher, is 17-4 in two varsity seasons and overcame early shoulder soreness to win 11 games as a junior and help lead the Mustangs to the 3A state championship series.

Shive is also a corner infielder for the Mustangs and batted .283 with three homers and 17 RBIs last season.

Shive underwent surgery on his shoulder on Oct. 16.

His father, Brent, explained the hurler felt discomfort beyond normal soreness, and after consultation with Dr. Stephen Furr, the Shives, Charlotte coaches and East coach Brian Hightower opted for arthroscopic surgery to determine the source of the pain.

Patrick Conner, physician for the Carolina Panthers, performed the surgery and reported no tears in Shive's labrum, but he corrected an internal impingement in the shoulder.

On Oct. 26, Shive was turned over to physical therapy with a four-month estimated timetable for recovery, and Shive's father reported his son was focused and making excellent progress.

Charlotte coach Loren Hibbs is out of town until Wednesday, but the Post hopes to get comments from him at that time.

- All-CCC teams

Salisbury's Hannah Lebowitz is the CCC Player of the Year for tennis, and SHS coach Chris Myers, who guided the Hornets to the state title, is the CCC Coach of the Year.

Kirstin Meyerhoeffer, Brooke Johnson, Shea Comadoll, Joy Loeblein and Erika Nelson joined Lebowitz on the All-CCC squad.

* Salisbury keeper Frankie Cardelle and coach Tom Sexton were runner-ups for top honors for CCC soccer.

Cardelle was joined on the All-CCC team by teammates Alex Hunter, Sam Garner, Will Mason, Oscar Bonilla and Daman Bowman.

Victor Berrios represented North Rowan on the team.

* North Rowan's Kristin Holshouser and Julie "Blue" Kriska were named to the All-CCC team for volleyball.

* Salisbury's Trella McLean was runner-up for CCC Coach of the Year for girls cross country.

Hornets Emily Shields, Katherine Shields, Jenna Bryan and Katelyn Horning earned All-CCC honors.

* Salisbury's Mike Allen was runner-up for CCC Coach of the Year for boys cross country.

Salisbury's Philip Tonseth and Nick Summers earned berths on the All-CCC team.

- Fields pours in 33

Shayla Fields (Salisbury) scored a career-high 33 points to lead N.C. State's women's basketball team to 62-55 victory over Charlotte on Sunday.

Fields was MVP of the Wolfpack Invitational.

Fields scored 20 of the Wolfpack's 30 points after halftime.

Playing all 40 minutes, Fields shot 9-for-19 from the floor, was 12-for-14 on free throws and hit three 3-pointers.

She added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

- Prep wrestling

Donovan Smoot, Colton Merritt, Josh Greer, Aaron Plyler, Franklin Wright, Hunter Arey, Coleton Boone, Barrett Stehr and Alex Lawson posted victories for East Rowan in a 48-27 victory over North Rowan.

Tyler Powers, Giancarlo Solorzano, Tanner Motley, Drew Laurens and Jeremiah Boger recorded wins for the Cavaliers.

* East was 3-2 in a tournament at Jay M. Robinson that was won by Lake Norman.

East topped Harding (42-33), Hickory Ridge (66-12) and Central Cabarrus (48-31) but fell to Bandys (41-33) and Robinson (54-27).

Plyler was 5-0 in the tournament. Arey and Stehr were 4-0, Josiah Hurst was 3-0, and Boone was 2-0.

- West Falcons win title

The West Rowan Falcons defeated North Rowan 27-12 in the Rowan Youth Football League Super Bowl for 5th and 6th graders.

The Falcons defended their league championship.

Mike McCullough was head coach. He was assisted by Greg Ball, Robert Flanagan, Jim Radtke, Andre Archie, Rodney Poteat and Stewart Bath.

All-star picks for the Falcons were Marshall Ball, Daniel Flanagan, Jacob Radtke, Alexis Archie, DaVon Steele, Marquez McCain, Jason O'Dell, Hunter Mesimer, Dallas Whitley and Bo Canupp.

Falcon players and cheerleaders will ride in the Cleveland Christmas Parade Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.

- SHS swimming

Salisbury's boys topped North 91-59 at a recent swim meet at Hurley YMCA.

Andrew McCollister won the 500 free (5:15.19) and the 100 breast (1:07.39).

Braxton Whitaker won the individual medley (2:58.72) and 100 back (1:25.31).

Grant Martz won the 200 free (2:54.55).

Austin Flynn, Whitaker, McCollister and Martz won the 400 free relay in 4:52.80.

Flynn, Jonathan Herscher, Martz and Maxwell Messinger won the 200 free in 2:15.52.

Martz, McCollister, Whitaker and Flynn won the 200 medley relay in 2:18.63.

- Prep football

Jamar Corpening rushed for 174 yards, and Steven Branch and Shontigo Parker combined for 21 tackles as Albemarle overwhelmed South Stokes 63-0 in a 1AA state playoff game on Monday.n Prep soccer

Unbeaten Myers Park edged Wilmington New Hanover 4-3 for the 4A state championship on Monday.n Russell on list

Tusculum Corey Russell, the SAC Offensive Player of the Year, was named one of the eight national finalists for the 2008 Harlon Hill Trophy, recognizing the football player of the year in Division II.

- Pfeiffer wins

Pfeiffer's men's basketball team defeated Lincoln 103-84 to even its record at 1-1.Sophomore Jeff Pettiway scored 24 points, and freshman Davon Gilliard had 19 points. Chris Woods had 18 points and 12 boards.

Logan Call ,who was named all-tournament, had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Pfeiffer's first home game is Nov. 25.

- GARS event

Fifty-four GARS members played a round at Warrior Golf Club on Monday.

Low 'A' Flight player was Gary Wortman with a net of 58.82.

Low 'B' player was David Schenk with a net of 62.68.

Low 'C' player with a net of 64.08 was Ron Ervin.

Low 'D' player was Bobby Bryant with a net of 67.46.

- DCDS wins

Celexus Long scored 14 points and Kenrick Jobe had 12 rebounds as Davidson Country Day School beat Forsyth Country Day 40-32 in middle school basketball.

* Salisbury Academy beat DCDS for the varsity boys championship in the DCDS Tip Off Classic.

SA's Trey Bergsma and Tyler Petty were all-tournament along with Sacred Heart's Herbert Jefferson and DCDS's Long and Conor Honeycutt.

* Sacred Heart topped Salisbury Academy in the girls varsity championship game.

All-tournament players included Sacred Heart's Kelly Dulkoski and Jordan Pring, and Salisbury Academy's Alexandra Drye and Sally Fowler.

* Salisbury Academy's Coleman Bergsma was all-tournament in the jayvee boys tourney.

* Salisbury Academy's Isabella Rusher and Sacred Heart's Erin Ansbro made all-tournament in the jayvee girls tourney.

- College volleyball

Pfeiffer's Ben Guiliano was named Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year for volleyball.

Pfeiffer's Brittany Dickens, Petra Ljubicic and Morgan Liebert made first team All-CC.

Lauren Spiotta was named second team.
