John Hipp of Salisbury caught this 521/2-inch red drum in the surf at Pea Island on the Outer Banks during a recent fishing trip. Submitted photo.

Randy Weddington and Ronnie Smith, both of China Grove, won a recent two-day Fish-off at High Rock Lake and Tuckertown Lake.

Qualifying teams from the High Rock team and New Piedmont team tournament trials competed on a Saturday at High Rock and a Sunday at Tuckertown, with cumulative poundage determining the winning team.

Weddington and Smith charged into the lead at High Rock with five fish weighing 20.57 pounds, then held on Sunday with a catch of 11.9 pounds at Tuckertown for a total weight of 32.47 pounds to take the first-place check for $1,700.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
