Time: 7:30 p.m.

Records: West 10-0, 5-0 NPC

Series: West leads 15-3

Last meeting: West won 42-0 in 2008

Streaks: West has won 19 straight NPC games and six in a row against North Iredell. West has scored 40-plus the last five meetings

Last time NI beat the Falcons: A 22-6 shocker in Olin in 2002

Last week: West had its off week; North Iredell lost to East Rowan 21-9

Next week: West will be one of the top seeds in the 3A bracket; North Iredell ends its season tonight

Game notes: North Iredell lost 63-0 to South Rowan. South Rowan lost 28-0 to top-ranked West Rowan. In other words, say a little prayer for North Iredell. This looks like a don't-stop-the-clock second half, for sure.

West has mashed the rest of the NPC, outscoring opponents 225-33. North Iredell has been outscored 172-41 by the same five teams.

Reasons to drive to Olin, anyway.

1. Scott Young. Unless West fumbles a dozen times, Young will log his 114th career win. That will move him within one of Roger Secreast, who ranks No. 4 all-time in Rowan County. Secreast coached 16 years at North and Salisbury. Young is in his 12th season in Mount Ulla.

2. K.P. Parks. Hard to say how long he'll play or how often he'll carry, but the Falcons would like him to rush for 250 yards or so. Parks has 9,529 yards. The state record is 10,241.

If you're keeping score at home, Parks has 134 career TDs, second to T.A. McLendon's record 178.

3. The defense. Watch for a few new wrinkles on offense after the open week, but a dominant 'D' that includes LB Christian Hedrick and DB Quan Cowan needs no tweaking. West has held seven foes under 10 points and shut out five teams in the first half. — Mike London

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
