National sports briefs: Duke's Singler honored

Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody and Kansas teammates Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins were the leading vote-getters on The Associated Press' preseason All-America team. They are joined by Kentucky's Patrick Patterson and Duke's Kyle Singler.

Aldrich and Cole are the first teammates chosen to the preseason team since J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams of Duke in 2005-06.

Singler averaged 16.5 points last season.

n LEXINGTON, Ky. — Darnell Dodson scored 19 points as No. 4 Kentucky beat Campbellsville 74-38 in an exhibition game. John Wall sat out the game as part of an NCAA suspension.

n LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. — Former Kentucky bcoach Billy Gillispie pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence of alcohol and apologized for what he called a mistake.

Gillispie accepted a plea bargain, which included fines and court costs of more than $1,000, a 30-day suspension of his driver's license and an agreement to complete an Alcohol Drivers Education Program.

CHARLOTTE — Gerald Wallace had 24 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, and the Charlotte Bobcats held the New Jersey Nets without a point for more than 10 minutes in rallying for a 79-68 victory.

The Nets' ineptitude allowed Charlotte to go on a 24-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters. It turned a 14-point Nets cushion into a 63-51 Charlotte lead with 8:38 left.

D.J. Augustin added 21 points in Raja Bell's return from a wrist injury.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Lanny Wadkins, Jose Maria Olazabal and Christy O'Connor Sr. were inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

n PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Doug Barron, a 40-year-old journeyman who lost his tour card three years ago, became the first player to be suspended by the PGA Tour for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He was suspended for one year.
