BREVARD - Salisbury's girls tennis team won the 2A Western final at Brevard on Wednesday. The clincher in a 5-2 victory came at No. 1 doubles where Salisbury's Katelyn Storey and Anna Flynn rolled 10-1 against Brevard's Taylor Snowden and Emma McLeod. Snowden-McLeod had won the 2A individual state title just four days earlier in Cary by beating Storey-Flynn in three tough sets. "Katelyn and Anna dominated today," Salisbury coach Chris Myers said. "To win big at No. 1 doubles was shocking." Salisbury's depth was key. The Hornets won at No. 3-6 singles for a 4-2 lead. The pivotal match was Flynn's comeback at No. 3 against McLeod. It was McLeod's first singles loss. Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer and Madeline Hoskins also handled previously unbeaten opponents, and Kayla Honeycutt won at No. 6. Salisbury (20-2) also led Brevard (18-1) in the two doubles matches that weren't completed. "Ist's a big win against a very strong team," Myers said. "I'm happy and excited." Salisbury will play for its fifth straight 2A dual team title Saturday in Burlington against Greene Central High from Snow Hill.
