Salisbury senior captain Allison Lee has committed to continue her golf and academic career at Winthrop.

n Salisbury's golf team shot 119 in wind and rain at Warrior on Thursday to defeat North Meck (121) and Davie County (156).

Catherine Parks shot 38 to lead the Hornets. Amber Lyerly shot 40. Lee and Madison Kennedy carded 41s.

Parks and Lyerly had career bests.

North Meck's Katie Kirk shot 36 for medalist honors.

K.K. Brake paced Davie with a 44.

n Gealy plays well

Elliot Gealy (Salisbury) finished tied for sixth in the Tarheel Tour's Charlotte National Open.

Gealy shot 69-73 — 142 and won $2,937.50.

n NPC volleyball

South Rowan beat West Iredell 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 15-10 in an NPC match on Thursday.

Taylor May had 27 kills, five solo blocks, four block assists and 10 digs to lead the Raiders to their biggest win of the season.

Kayla Morrow had 14 kills. Krista Haywood had 44 assists and served for 19 points. Molly Garrett served for 16 points while Taylor Smith served for 14.

n Softball

Sydney Poole pitched a one-hitter as Erwin defeated West Rowan 11-1.

Poole struck out eight and walked one.

Steffi Sides had three hits for the Eagles (5-0). Bobbi Thomas, Josie McNeely and Katie Kepley had two hits each.

Jesse Rummage and Mariah Poole led the defense.

n Rowan Tarheels

The Rowan Tarheels baseball team won six of seven games on their trip to Cooperstown Dreams Park and finished 17th out of 98 teams.

Scores were as follows: Tarheels 10, Screaming Eagles (Pa.) 4; Tarheels 12, Texas Venom 0; Tarheels 15, WBL Sparks (Ohio) 3; Tarheels 14, Hillsborough Screamers (N.J.) 0; Tarheels 8, '96 Express (N.Y.) 7; Tarheels 11, Parkway Club (Mass.) 6; Diamond Dreams (Md.) 9, Tarheels 8.

The Tarheels roster consists of Cody McNeely, Joseph Gray, Bryson Shepherd, Riley Myers, Eric Goldston, Dylan Snider, John Daugherty, Josh Gobble, Spencer Bost, Bryson Prugh, Justin Norman and Luke Setzer.

n Gray Stone

Dalton Wally ran 17:04 to tie the course record and Gray Stone's boys cross country team won a Rocky River meet in Norwood with a score of 35.

Kaleb Medlin (fifth), Mygel Bergstresser (seventh), Patrick Martin (10th) and Scott Griffin (12th) also scored for the state's top-ranked 1A team.

n Gray Stone's girls finished first with a score of 35. Hunter Latimer set a course record in 19:29.

Janna Featherstone (third), Mary Bergstresser (fifth), Raelynn Perry (ninth) and Megan Yost (17th) were the other scorers.

Gray Stone is ranked 10th in the state in 1A. Latimer, a freshman, is ranked No. 1.

n Gray Stone's soccer team defeated Mount Pleasant 2-1.

Bradley Harrington and Mike Wall scored for Gray Stone (9-1, 7-1). Jeffrey Harrington had an assist.

n Pfeiffer volleyball

Pfeiffer will compete in Division II men's volleyball starting in the spring of 2010.
