Area briefs: Carson soccer shuts out South

Carson blanked South Rowan by a 6-0 score in boys soccer Wednesday. Valentin Nava scored three goals, and he now has 11 on the season. He also posted three assists for the Cougars (2-1-2, 1-1-1 NPC).

Anel Ramic blocked a penalty kick in the second half and pitched another shutout. Juan Caicedo, Carlos Soto and Tom Keoboupha scored the other goals. Salih Begic, C.J. Sippel, Anthony Melton, Dylan Overcash and Tyler Corriher led the defense.

n East Rowan lost 7-1 to Lake Norman on Wednesday. Andrew May scored on a second-half penalty kick for the Mustangs.n East Rowan and North Rowan played to a 2-2 draw Tuesday.Bobbie Barnes put a cross from a corner kick in the back of the net in the 20th minute for his first high school goal to give East a 1-0 lead.

A breakaway by Giancarlo Solorazano and a goal by Bictor Berrios gave the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead.

Dylan Grubb's first high school goal tied the match for East, which outshot North 25-16.

Dillion Arey made 10 saves for the Mustangs. Thomas Baker made eight for the Cavaliers.

- Prep tennis

Salisbury's girls tennis team remained unbeaten in the CCC with a 9-0 victory against Lexington.

Hannah Lebowitz, Kirstin Meyerhoeffer, Brooke Johnson, Shea Comadoll, Joy Loeblein and Erika Nelson claimed singles wins for the Hornets (6-1, 4-0 CCC). Johnson-Nelson, Comadoll-Loeblein and Sarah Truemper-Sun Dragas won in doubles.n West Rowan lost 5-4 to North Iredell in an NPC match Wednesday. The Falcons won at the top four singles spots, but North Iredell swept doubles.Kate Ritchie, Sarah Teel, Madison Rusher and Maggie Daniel prevailed for West. Teel took a third-set tiebreaker by a 7-3 score at No. 2 singles.

- Prep cross country

Lake Norman's boys and girls won the pre-NPC cross country meet Wednesday.

* Lake Norman's girls had six of the first eight finishers and totaled 20 points, 83 fewer than second-place Northwest Cabarrus. East and West claimed the next two spots. South Rowan placed seventh, and Carson was ninth.

West's Leslie Pence (21:32) was fifth, and South's Emily Kinney (22:00) placed ninth. Carson's Sierra Zemanick was 11th. West's Taylor Bryan took 15th, followed by East's Taylor Arey.

* Lake Norman's boys had 52 points, one fewer than second-place Northwest Cabarrus. East Rowan, next with 70, was followed by South Rowan and West Rowan. Carson placed seventh.

Chase Fisher (17:05) and NWC teammate Garrett West secured the top two spots. The next four places were taken by East's Ross Oden (17:48), East's Cole Honeycutt (17:49), South's Tyler Kowalczyk (17:57) and South's Michael York (17:56). Lake Norman had runners finish seventh, eighth, ninth, 12th and 16th.

Dillon Kluttz led West with a 13th-place finish, and South's Dalton Johnson came across next. Coleton Boone took 17th, and Carson's Nick Golden placed 20th.

- Jayvee football

Salisbury's jayvee football team pulled out an 18-14 win at East Rowan on Wednesday.

Salisbury (1-1) took over on downs at its own 18-yard line with 1:31 left in the game, and quarterback D.J. Lewis found Daquan Robertson for a 60-yard gain on the first play. On the next snap, Dominique Dismuke caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Lewis.

The contest featured four lead changes.

The Hornets jumped ahead on Dismuke's 68-yard touchdown run, and East then went in front 8-6. Dejoun Jones' 21-yard TD run gave the Hornets a 12-8 lead in the third quarter, and the Mustangs pulled ahead 14-12 in the fourth quarter.
