Area sports briefs: Intimidators win

The Kannapolis Intimidators held off the Rome Braves 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Fieldcrest Cannon and finished a homestand on a positive note.

Four Kannapolis relievers shut out the Braves for 31/3 innings.

Joe Persichina hit his first homer for the Intimidators.

* Clinton's Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus, UNC) went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's 7-5 victory against Lansing. Seager stole a base. His batting average fell to .417.

- Wood bat leagues

Wade Moore (West Rowan, Catawba) had two RBIs for the Forest City Owls in Tuesday's 13-11 victory against Asheboro.

- Troublemakers win title

The Carolina Troublemakers 18-under softball team won the 'A' Division AAU national championship at Concord's Liske Park.

The Denver Dazzle was runner-up.

Troublemaker players include Sabrina Stephens, Alex Mills, Kaylyn Chapman, Megan Bustle, Stacey Wolfrey, Lindsey Mullis, Devan Poff, Kasey Kerley, Lauren Bost and Brandy Lloyd. Lisa Stephens and Rick Mills coached the team.

- Carolinas Junior golf

Alex Nianouris (Salisbury) shot 72-79— 151 and placed fourth in the 14-15 division at the Carolina Junior Championship held in Pinehurst.

Roy Dixon III (Salisbury) shot 74-78— 152 and tied for 30th in the 16-18 division.

- North boosters

The North Rowan High School Athletic Boosters will hold their August meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. in the library.

The Fall "Meet the Athletes" night will be planned. The football program and other projects will be discussed. All parents and students are welcome to attend. Anyone needing additional information can call Mark Jennings (704) 213-2491.

- West cross country

West Rowan cross country practice starts Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the community park on Hurley School Road.

- South soccer

South Rowan begins soccer practice on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 7 a.m. Bring completed physical forms and cleats. Call Coach Sides at 980-621-0549 for information.

- South football tickets

Fans who had South Rowan reserve seats for football last season still have an opportunity to renew season tickets before they are offered to the general public, but today is the last day.

Tickets can be purchased from 8-3:30 p.m. If you can't make it to the school, call 857-1161, ext. 280.

Reserve seating will go on sale at the school to the general public starting Monday.

- Carson athletics

Carson begins football practice on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 7:30 a.m.

All prospects must have a physical to participate.

On Monday, Aug. 3, Carson soccer and tennis practice begins at 8 a.m. The volleyball team's first practice is at 5 p.m.

The cross country team also begins practice on Aug. 3 at the corner of Patterson and Main streets in China Grove at 9 a.m. All athletes must have a physicals.

- Pfeiffer showcase

Pfeiffer baseball coach Mark Hayes will head the school's 10th annual Baseball Showcase Camp in late November. The camp will take place Nov. 28-29 at Joe Ferebee Field on Pfeiffer's campus.

The showcase camp is open to high school players in grades 9-12. Area college coaches and professional scouts will be on hand all weekend.

- Prep football

Former Concord coach E.Z. Smith was honored Saturday for 29 years of coaching the Spiders football team.

- Southeast Middle camp

Southeast Middle School's football coaching staff is holding a youth camp Aug. 3-6 from 6-8 p.m. for ages 9-14. The cost is $40.

Wear white T-short, shorts and sneakers or cleats. Call 704-638-5561 for information.

- Corriher-Lipe camp

There will be a five-day football mini-camp at Corriher-Lipe Middle School in Landis on Aug. 3-7.

The camp is for grades 7-8 and will run from 6:30-8 p.m. daily.

- Rowan Little League

Rowan Little League fall baseball and softball sign-ups are being taken at Godley's Garden Center.

Fall ball is for ages 5 to 14. Cost is $30.
