Area Sports Briefs: South-Randolph washed out

South Rowan Legion's game with Randolph County was washed out on Monday night.

Game 3 of the Area III semifinals has been rescheduled for tonight at South Rowan High, with Game 4 in Landis on Wednesday.

Lefty Cam Park (5-1) is expected to be the pitcher for David Wright's club tonight.

- East football

East Rowan will be the host for a youth football camp for rising 3rd-8th graders on Friday, July 25.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the field house. Practice sessions will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.

The camp fee is $25, and the cost will cover a T-shirt and lunch.

Proof of insurance will be needed for participation.

* East Rowan will host a parent/player meeting on Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. in the library for any student interested in playing football this season.

* Practice begins on Aug. 1 at 6 p.m.

- West football

West Rowan football coach Scott Young will hold a parents meeting for all prospects on Monday, July 28, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

* A mini-camp will be held on July 29 at 5 p.m. Any player needing equipment should report at 3:30 p.m.

* The first practice is scheduled for Aug. 1 at 5 p.m.

- McCanless golf

The McCanless Couples played their weekly nine-hole match on Sunday with 21 golfers participating. The format was two-man Captain's Choice.

Winners were as follows:

First Place — John Rowland and Jini Blythe (33).

Second Place — Ron and Jini Blythe (34).

Third Place — David Huneycutt and Monica Green (34).

Winning "closest to the pin" was John Rowland.

- GARS

A total of 56 GARS members played on Monday at Crescent Golf Course.

The big shot of the day came from Tom Talbert, who recorded a hole-in-one on No. 8.

The low A flight player was Bobby Clark (61.84).

The low B flight player was Dick Hatoway (66.96).

The low C flight player was Donald Martin (66.09).

The low D flight player was Joe Robinson (72.22).

- Intimidators win

The Kannapolis Intimidators (15-15) snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating Savannah 7-2 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday night.

Starter Levi Maxwell picked up the win, going six innings and giving up only seven hits. The West Virginia product is tied for the South Atlantic League lead with 10 wins (against three losses).

Mark Fleisher hit his10th home run in the second inning. In the fifth, the Intimidators added an RBI single from Nick Mahin to score Christian Marrero, and an RBI single from Sergio Morales.

After the Sand Gnats scored twice in the sixth inning, the I's fought back as Jim Gallagher drove in Brent Morel with a double.

Kannapolis added three insurance runs in the eighth.
