A best front/best back tournament was held Tuesday at Corbin Hills. Becky Isenhour won low gross on the front. Miriam Gruber won low net, and Norma Burgess won low putts. On the back side, Phyllis Durland won low gross, Shirley Baucom won low net and Anna Robinson had low putts.

Legion baseball
In the Northern Division of Area III, sixth-seeded Kernersville has sweept a second-round series with second-seeded Burlington.
Fourth-seeded High Point holds a 2-1 series lead on top-seeded Western Forsyth.

Minor Leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators lost 10-2 against Greenville on Tuesday.
Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) and Nicholas Ciolli went 2-for-4.

Jerry Sands (Catawba) went 1-
for-4 with a double for Chattanooga in a 9-1 loss to the Carolina Mudcats.

Ryan Query (A.L. Brown, Catawba) hit a two-run homer to lift
the Gulf Coast League Braves to a 3-
1 win against the GCL Blue Jays.
It was Query’s second homer.

Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus, UNC) is enjoying a great season with the High Desert Mavericks, Seattle’s farm club in the advanced A California League.
Seager leads the league with 70 runs scored and is second with 104 hits. He also ranks in the top 10 with a .327 batting average and 21 doubles.

Wood bat leagues
Justin Roland (East Rowan, Charlotte) batted .500 in his first six games with the Statesville Owls of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. He had two hits Monday in a 6-2 win against the Tennessee Tornado.

Ryan Bostian (South Rowan, Catawba) is batting .313 for the Morganton Aggies of the SCBL with a homer, two triples, six doubles and six steals in six attempts.

Youth baseball
East Rowan Diamond Sports’ 12U
all-stars played in a Cal Ripken Invitational event in Hildebran and finished second with a 3-1 record.
East lost to Hudson 5-4 but defeated St. Stephens 15-8, Hildebran 14-2 and McDowell 13-2.
Jacob O’Neal went 5-for-9 in the tournament for East. Seth Killian, Grayson Whicker, Cody Holshouser, Addison Fry, Alex Hamilton and Chance Brown had four hits each. Jackson Justus was 3-for-6.
East has a first-round bye in the Area 3 Cal Ripken Tournament being held in Welcome. It opens play Thursday at 8 p.m. against the Surry North-Davidson County winner.
The top three in the Area 3 tournament advance to the state event.

Middle school football
Knox Middle football workouts for rising seventh and eighth graders will be Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m.

Summer workouts for China Grove Middle players began Monday. Workouts will be held every Monday and Thursday from 8-10 a.m.

Hoops Unlimited
Applications are still being accepted for the July 12-15 session of the 17th annual Hoops Unlimited Basketball Camp at East Rowan.
The camp is open to rising sixth-ninth grade boys and girls. Students from all schools are welcome. The cost of the all-day camp is $95 and includes a camp shirt and ”all you can eat“ lunch each day.

Catawba camps
An all-skills softball camp will be held at Catawba’s
Whitley Field from July 19-22. A pitch
er/catcher camp will be included.
The camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon and cost $100. You may register for either the all-skills or the pitcher/catcher camp. Camps are for ages 6-18.

Youth baseball
The Southern Rowan Sports League in the Landis-North Kannapolis area will hold registration for youth T-ball, baseball and softball for ages 4-14 from July 17 through Aug. 27. Cost is $50 per player. Registration information is available at southernrowansportsleague.com.
The registration dates are: July 17 (9-11 a.m.), July 22 (5-8 p.m.), July 24 (9-11 a.m.), July 31 (9-11 a.m.), Aug. 7 (9-11 a.m.), Aug. 12 (5-8 p.m.), Aug. 14 (9-11 a.m.), Aug. 19 (5-8 p.m.), Aug. 21 (9-11 a.m.), Aug. 24 (5-8 p.m.) and Aug. 26 (5-8 p.m.).
Registration will be held at the Landis Recreation Building, 208 South Meriah St. in Landis, or mailed to SRSL, P.O. Box 207, Landis, NC 28088.
