Bristol's Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) hit his first professional homer Sunday night in a 7-4 Appy League win against Johnson City.

Wagner hit a two-out solo homer in the first inning.

Wagner also had a double and two singles and raised his batting average to .283.

- American Legion

Mooresville's American Legion baseball team joined Rowan and South Rowan in sweeping first-round Southern Division playoff series on Sunday night.

The Moors nipped Concord 4-3.

No. 3 seed Mooresville will begin a second-round series at No. 2 South Rowan on Wednesday.

Aaron Meadows slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to break at 2-2 tie. Concord's Garrett Furr's hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth off Wes Dumford.

It was one of the few mistakes Dumford made in a complete-game effort. He induced 14 ground-ball outs, giving up just five hits and two earned runs.

Billy Nantz hit a solo homer and scored three runs for Mooresville.

- The only team that didn't wrap up its Southern Division series in three games on Sunday was No. 4 Stanly, which dropped a 9-1 decision at home to fifth-seeded Lexington.

Lexington will try to even the series when it plays host to Stanly tonight at Holt-Moffitt Field.

- The Northern Division's four playoff series all ended in 3-0 sweeps.

On Sunday, Western Forsyth beat Kernersville 7-6, Randolph took care of Surry 13-5, Burlington beat Eastern Randolph 13-4, and High Point defeated Winston-Salem 13-7.

- McCanless golf

The McCanless Couples played a nine-hole match, with 22 golfers participating. The format was modified alternate shot:

First Place — Matt and Liz Murphy: 31

Second Place — Mary and Gene Seaford: 34

Third Place — Yvonne Barger and Don Smith: 38

Closest to the Pin — Tim Earnhardt

Longest Putt — David Huneycutt

- The Jr. Mac tournament was held on Thursday. Winners were:

9 and under — Michael Childress: 49. Childress also won longest putt.

10-13

1st place — Logan Shuping: 39.

Second place — Chris Hassard: 40

Longest putt — Nick Lyerly

14-up — Jordan Barkley

Barkley also won longest putt.

This is a summer tournament that is held on the first and third Thursdays each month.

The next tournament is scheduled for July 16 at 2 p.m. The cost is $6 for members, $9 for non-members.

- Hole-in-one

Dan Wales sank the first hole-in-one of his career in Conover on July 3. Wales made his ace on Rock Barn's championship course.

The shot came on the 187-yard No. 3 hole. Wales hit a 4-iron about 6 feet left of the pin, and it followed the slope into the hole.

Playing with Wales were Kevin Keiger, Tim Kepley and Derek Wales.

Standing on the next tee box and witnessing the feat were Rufty Patterson, Kelly Everhart, Jeff Chapman and Madison Currin.

- Intimidators quiet in loss

The Kannapolis Intimidators couldn't find any offense Sunday in a 3-1 home loss to Delmarva.

Kannapolis didn't have a hit after the fourth inning and went through a stretch of 14 batters in a row without a baserunner. Kannapolis posted its only run in the first inning when Drew Garcia drove in Brandon Short.

J.R. Ballinger made his first start of the season and struggled in his Kannapolis debut. The right-hander out of Southern Mississippi lasted just three innings, giving up three earned runs. Ballinger (0-1) struck out three.

The Kannapolis bullpen did its best to keep the team in it. Kevin Asselin, Leroy Hunt and Tyson Corley combined to throw six shutout innings.

- Knox physicals

Sports physicals for all Knox athletes will be held Thursday, July 9 from 5 -7 p.m. at Knox Middle School.
