Former Livingstone standout Jordon Vaden finished third in his 200 meters heat in the Olympic Trials on Friday.
Vaden, who finished behind Shawn Crawford and Brent Gray, was clocked in 20.82 seconds.
He placed 12th overall and advanced to today's competition.
The finals are Sunday and will determine the three sprinters that represent the U.S. in the event in Beijing.
n Dixon takes lead
Glenn Dixon posted the only sub-par score of the opening round and took a one-stroke lead in the Salisbury Country Club Championship on Friday.
Dixon fired a one-under-par 70 and took the lead over defending champion Stephen Bullock, Bill Hayes and Charles Graeber.
Stan Honeycutt was two strokes back with a 72. Following with 73s were John Henderlite, Jay Stevens and Wally Eidson.
The second round of the 54-hole event will be played today, starting at 8:30 a.m. The final round will be played Sunday.
n All-Star Game
The Area III American Legion All-Star Game will be held tonight at Newman Park at 7 p.m.
n Intimidators postponed
The Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out on Friday.
Kannapolis will play a doubleheader today against Lake County. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
Fireworks are planned after the ballgames. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Jimmy Rollins bobblehead.
n Minor leagues
Jerry Sands (Catawba) had a two-run double to help the Gulf Coast League Dodgers beat the Cardinals 4-2 on Thursday and had three hits, including his third homer, in a 12-4 victory over the Mets on Friday.
Sands, who homered in his first two professional games, is batting .250 with 10 RBIs.
n David Thomas (Catawba) has been promoted to the Athletics' short-season Class A team in Vancouver.Thomas opened the season with the A's rookie-level team in Arizona as he waited for a quad muscle to heal. He hit .462 in five games in Arizona.
n Wood bat leagues
Coastal PlainBlake Ketner (Catawba) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Thomasville in a 3-1 victory over Forest City on Wednesday.
Wade Moore (West Rowan) had two hits and scored Forest City's only run.
n Keegan Linza (North Rowan) pitched well for Columbia in a 6-5 loss to Petersburg on Wednesday.
Linza allowed two hits and one run in five innings and did not figure in the decision.
NorthwoodsCharlotte's Rob Lyerly is the leading hitter for the Madison Mallards. Lyerly, whose parents are Rowan natives, is batting .326 with two homers and 19 RBIs.
Cape Cod
Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus) is now with the Chatham A's and was 2-for-9 with one RBI in his first two games.
n Rowan Amateur
The entry deadline for the 30th annual Horace Billings Rowan Amateur golf tournament at Corbin Hills is Wednesday. The tournament takes place July 18-20.
The field will be made up of defending champion Keith Dorsett and the low 31 qualifiers. Golfers must be a resident of Rowan County or a member of a golf club located in the county.
Seventeen golfers own Rowan titles, with Gary Miller leading the way with six.
n Golf tournament
Golf coaches have put together a County School Golf Tournament to raise funds for all high school golf teams. The tournament is July 12 at Rolling Hills at 2 p.m.
The cost is $100 per two-person team. The format is captain's choice adult/child alternate shot. The adult can be a parent or relative or friend of the family.
Entry fee includes hot dog, drink, mulligan and tee buster.
High School and older play from blue tees. Middle school and younger play from red tees.
Hole sponsorships are $100, with proceeds going to the school of your choice.

n Junior golf
The first Rowan Junior Open golf tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday at two area clubs.
The first round will be played at The Club at Irish Creek at Kannapolis, and the final round will be played at Warrior Club in China Grove.
Competition will be for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18.
n Catawba hoops camp
Men's coach Jim Baker is directing the 44th annual Catawba Basketball Camp along with assistant coach Bill Haggerty.
Individual camps for boys and girls ages 7-15 and beginners camps for boys and girls ages 5-8 will be held at Catawba from July 7-10and at Concord's Covenant Classical from July 14-17. Call 704-637-4473 or go to www.e-timeout.com to register online.
n Catawba baseball
The Catawba Future Stars Baseball Camp for ages 8-14 will be held July 21-24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and costs $195.
Future Stars camps feature individual instruction by Catawba staffers, including head coach Jim Gantt.

n Hoops Unlimited
Applications are still being accepted for the July 7-10 session of the 15th Annual Hoops Unlimited Basketball Camp for rising second-fifth grade boys and girls.
The camp will be held at North Hills Christian School.
The cost of the all-day camp is $95 and includes a camp T-shirt and "all you can eat lunch each day."
