College Football: A 13-year-old commits to Tennessee

Associated PressKNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The 13-year-old brother of Tennessee safety Eric Berry says he wants to play for the Volunteers too.

That's without having played a single down of high school football.

Evan Berry will be an eighth-grader in the fall, but is expected to eventually play quarterback and safety at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga., like his older brother.

"Yes, I committed to Tennessee," Evan Berry told Rivals.com. "It's the only college I know right now and it seems the best for me."

No valid scholarship offer could be made by Tennessee under NCAA rules until a prospect has registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center, which Berry has not, The Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

He told recruiting Web site Rivals.com that he's "committed to Tennessee" and wants to play for defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

Berry would first be eligible to play for Tennessee in 2014, the last year in coach Lane Kiffin's six-year contract. Monte Kiffin signed a three-year contract in January, which wouldn't guarantee he would still be on staff if Berry stays committed to Tennessee.
