J.C. Price inducted fourth class into Hall recently

The J.C. Price Hall of Fame Committee recently inducted its fourth class in ceremonies held at Livingstone's Events & Hospitality Center.

Rufus Little was master of ceremonies. John Mackey chairs the Hall committee.

Inductees offering remarks were Rosa L. Keith Byers (basketball), Delores Feamster (basketball), Robert Ervin (football), Theodore Coleman (basketball).

Byers reminded everyone in attendance she was also good in the band. Feamster was surprised people still remembered her feats from long ago.

Ervin drew laughs when he said he planned to follow the rule of the three Bs, saying, "Be brief, brother, be brief, and I thank you."

Coleman recalled getting into a fight with a player competing for the same position. He was suspended and his mother had to escort him back to school, but it paid off.

New inductees not able to attend for health reasons included Colonel Stafford Pemberton, a retired Army colonel, John Scott (football), I.J. Olds (band director), James "Andy" Davis (football), Thomas Lassiter (football), Burl Alexander (football), Bobby Lee Milton (football), James Vincent (football), Freddie Cathcart (football) Hulon Butler (football and basketball), William Hickman (football) and George Alexander (football).

Hickman and Alexander were standouts on coach S.W. Lancaster's 1952 Price football team that beat Tarboro Patillo 13-7 for a state championship. Alexander scored the deciding touchdown.

The J.C. Price Hall of Fame Committe gave special recognition to West Rowan coach Scott Young for leading a 3A championship football team and Salisbury coach Andrew Mitchell for guiding the Salisbury Hornet girls to the 2A state basketball title.

Doris Jones was recognized for her work with the alumni and introduced members of the Class of 1949 who were celebrating their 60th anniversary of graduating from Price.
