2A boys regional: Hornets finish second

Salisbury's boys track and field team finished second in the 2A Midwest Regional, and East Lincoln won with a total of 95 points.

The Hornets had 85, and North Rowan secured fifth with 64. East Lincoln picked up its only victory and earned 10 critical points in the final event: the 4x400 relay. The Hornets were eighth in that race.

Salisbury's Romar Morris, who suffered a leg injury in the conference championship meet, won the 100 (10.80) and 200 (21.90). Nick Summers ran a 4:40.57 in the 1600 and took first by 0.28 seconds over East Lincoln's Brather Cline.

North's victories came from Samuel Starks (110 hurdles, 15.59) and the 4x200 team of Starks, Titus King, Cameron Mallett and Lathan Charleston (1:31.26).

For Salisbury, Summers placed second in the 800 (2:04). The Hornets got individual third-place showings from Philip Tonseth (4:41 in the 1600, 10:45 in the 3200), Darien Rankin (high jump, 6-2) and A.J. Ford (shot put, 47-4). The 4x100 team of Morris, Ford, Joseph Figueroa and Hanson Saryee (43.81) as well as the 4x800 team of Summers, Tonseth, David Simmons and Marqui Ross (8:35) also claimed third. Ford was fourth in the 200 (23.19).

North Rowan had four second-place finishes: Mallett (200, 23.18), King (110 hurdles, 15.75), Haussen Walser (pole vault, 12-0) and Darius Jackson (discus, 135-7). Charleston took fourth in the 100 (11.47).
