Associated Press

ROME — Novak Djokovic won the 10th title of his career, rallying Sunday to defeat Stanislas Wawrinka 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the Rome Masters.

* BERLIN — Dina Safina pulled off her third upset of a top-10 player in a week at the German Open, winning the title by beating ninth-ranked Elena Dementieva 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The 17th-ranked Safina also beat No. 1 Justine Henin and No. 8 Serena Williams.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

BOONE — Andrew Franco hit a two-run triple in sixth inning to lead Appalachian State to a 4-2 win over Furman.

Furman (29-20, 15-9 SoCon) broke its school-record 13-game winning streak in the loss to Appalachian State (29-23, 13-11).

* CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A two-run single by Jeremy Farrell gave Virginia a 5-4 lead over North Carolina in the bottom of the sixth inning before heavy rains suspended play and eventually forced an end to a weather-shortened game.

Kyle Seager hit his 25th double for UNC (42-9, 20-6 ACC) to tie the school’s single-season record.

* COLLEGE PARK, Md. — N.C. State had four big frames in a 17-8 rout of Maryland.

The Wolfpack (35-16, 17-9) scored four runs in the third, six in the fourth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh.

* WINSTON-SALEM — Mike Murray hit a three-run homer as Wake Forest beat Duke 9-4. The Demon Deacons (22-27, 11-15) are one win away from clinching a berth in the ACC tournament.

TORCH

BEIJING — A Chinese man was arrested for saying on the Internet that he planned to grab the Olympic torch during its relay through eastern China, police said.
