Salisbury’s baseball game with Thomasville, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved up to tonight at the request of Thomasville.

Senior players will be honored.

The Hornets are tied for third place in the CCC standings with a 5-3 record and still have a chance to move higher. Four CCC teams make the playoffs. The Hornets will conclude the regular season with a key game at East Davidson next week.

Davie has wrapped up an outright CPC championship and has the best record (18-2) through 20 games of any team in school history. Davie will play the No. 4 seed from the Southwestern Conference in the first round of the state playoffs.

Prep softball

North Rowan’s girls lost 3-0 to YVC foe Chatham Central on Tuesday.

Samantha Jacobs struck out seven in six innings and allowed three hits, seven walks and one earned run.

Taylor Sells and Lindsey Hinson had the only hits for North (9-6, 8-5).

North Rowan is home against North Moore on Friday afternoon.

Pro baseball

Los Angeles’ Jerry Sands (Catawba) is batting .235 after nine games in the big leagues. He has five doubles, five RBIs and two steals.

Minor leagues

The Kannapolis Intimidators were washed out on Wednesday in Lexington, Ky., and will play a doubleheader tonight. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m. The Intimidators will be back home on May 5.

Jackson’s Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus) went 4-for-6 on Monday to raise his batting average to .312. Jackson has been rained out the last two nights in Mississippi.

Winston-Salem’s Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) saw his batting average drop to .250 with an 0-for-4 on Wednesday when the Dash fell 3-2 to Frederick.

Wilmington’s Whit Merrifield (Davie) went 0-for-3 on Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to Lynchburg but is still hitting. 308.

Former Charlotte 49ers slugger Rob Lyerly, whose parents are Rowan County natives, is batting .295 with two homers for the New York Yankees’ high A team in Tampa.

Hagerstown’s Wade Moore (West Rowan, Catawba) has been swinging the bat well the last week, and a 7-for-16 stretch has pulled his batting average up to .228.

The Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association was the host for a Catawba Valley League event with 10 clubs participating.

A golf tournament to raise funds for Rowan Helping Ministries will be held at Crescent on May 14.

There will be a shotgun start at 2 p.m. and a Captain’s Choice format with four-man teams. Lunch is from 1-2 p.m.

Cost is $50 per player and includes lunch and prizes.
