Area briefs: ACC stars play in Concord

ACC senior all-stars, including Duke's Jon Scheyer, Brian Zoubek and Lance Thomas, Wake Forest's Ish Smith and UNC's Marcus Ginyard and Deon Thompson, will take on a team comprised of SPC all-stars at Concord High on Monday night.

A.L. Brown's Jaques Deese and Spencer Falls are on the SPC team, along with Concord's Griffin Templeton and Jalen Cannady and Northwest Cabarrus' Tyler Honeycutt and Justin Seager.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Concord High and the Sportscenter Fitness & Athletic Club on Country Club Drive. General Admission tickets are $15, and a very limited number of VIP tickets are available for $50.

- College swimming

Catawba's Ashley Owens recently competed in the United States Paralympics Spring Swimming Nationals and earned a spot on the U.S. National Team.

Owens has competed in two Paralympic Games (2004 & 2008), winning four medals (two gold) and one World Championship, where she claimed four gold medals in 2006.

Owens finished second in three events — the 400 free, 100 free and 100 breast in the S10 category. She is the current world record holder in the 100 free and swam a time of 1.37.94.

- College softball

Livingstone's softball team lost 5-1 to Virginia State on Tuesday to snap a three-game winning streak.

Shaniqua Harrison pitched seven innings for the Blue Bears (7-14, 3-11 CIAA) and allowed two earned runs.

- College baseball

Jerod Faggart (NW Cabarrus) hit his ninth homer on Tuesday as Appalachian State swept N.C. A&T in a doubleheader.

- Minor leagues

Oakland prospect David Thomas (Catawba) is opening this season in Double-A at Midland, Texas.

- Prep softball

Undefeated East Rowan is ranked seventh in the latest NCSCA softball poll.
