The All-Rowan County High School Cheerleading Championship was held Feb. 27 at Catawba College.
Four high school teams participated: West Rowan, East Rowan, Salisbury and Jesse C. Carson.
The Jesse C. Carson squad cheered its way to top honors, receiving the Jessica Grady Cup, a rotating award named for a West Rowan cheerleader from 2002-2004 who was killed in an automobile accident.
East Rowan came in second, Salisbury placed third, and West Rowan placed fourth.
Charlotte Brown of East Rowan was named Player of the Year and also named to the All-Rowan County cheerleading squad. Whitney Corriher, who was All-Rowan County Player of the Year for 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, presented Brown with her Player of the Year award.
Others named as All-Rowan County cheerleaders were Haley Keever and Kayla Morris of East Rowan High School, Jesse Troutman and Nicole Messina of Jesse C. Carson High School, Taylor Downs of Salisbury High School, and Drew Myers of West Rowan High School.
Coaches nominated their top cheerleaders and submitted videotapes for judging prior to Saturday's competition.
