Jacob Dietz had a career day, and Maverick Miles was simply Maverick Miles one more time.

Both South Rowan infielders went 4-for-4 as the Raiders beat Northwest Cabarrus 10-8 in a slugfest.

Dietz's grand slam in the fifth was the biggest blow. It gave South (2-0) an 8-3 lead. Miles hit a solo homer in the sixth. He's 6-for-6 this season.

"It was nice to get the bats going a little, and our defense played well again," South coach Thad Chrismon said.

Blake Houston knocked in two runs for the Raiders. Cory Deason and Josh Herring scored a pair of runs each.

Preston Penninger (2-0) was the starter and winner for the Raiders.

Corey Seager, Weston Smith and Michael Hagwood belted homers for Northwest (1-2). Justin Seager smacked two doubles.

South plays a makeup game today at Mt. Pleasant.

n East Rowan won its second game on its Georgia trip, topping Eastside 6-1.

Andy Austin went 3-for-3 with two doubles for the Mustangs (2-0). Thomas Allen homered.

Bradley Robbins allowed three hits in five strong innings on the mound. Will Johnson pitched two shutout innings in relief.

"We didn't play real good, but our pitching was effective," East coach Brian Hightower said. "We haven't got it going yet at the plate. Our timing's a little off."

East expects to get a serious test today from Heritage.n West Rowan lost 13-3 to Mooresville.

Keith Little and A.J. Nelson did the job on the mound for the Blue Devils, who got a three-run homer from Jake Beaver in the first inning.

Patrick Hampton and Jonie Bautista led the Falcons (0-2) at the plate.

West travels to Cary today to take on Northwood.

n Davie opened its season with a 5-1 win against Mount Pleasant.

The War Eagles only had four hits — two each by Tyler Jordan and Jacob Barber — but they put together a four-run fifth inning.

Josh Berryhill pitched four sharp innings for the War Eagles.

"We're just glad to finally get to play one," Davie coach Mike Herndon said. "We didn't hit it, but we had a real good effort defensively."

Davie is at Rich Park today for a doubleheader against Matthews Butler.

n Central Davidson beat West Stokes 5-4 behind the pitching of Cody Beck.

The Spartans entertain Ledford today.

n East Davidson fell 12-2 to Randleman.

Tyler Lequire took the loss. Davin Lawing and Keaton Hawks led the Golden Eagles at the plate.

n West Davidson made five errors and lost 9-1 to Ledford.
