Meredith senior Brittany Cornelius was named to the All-USA South second team for women's basketball.
Cornelius (East Rowan) finished her career as the Avenging Angels' No. 3 all-time scorer with 1,468 points.
Cornelius averaged 15.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior and had nine double-doubles and one triple-double.
* South Carolina State's Sophilia Hipps (North Rowan) scored 23 points to pace the Bulldogs to a 63-51 MEAC win against Norfolk State.
* George Washington's Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury) scored 12 points in a 65-60 loss to St. Louis.
- 7th-grade hoops
Knox's girls beat North Rowan 44-13. Demeria Robinson had 23 points, and Ashley Blaire had 13 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists for the Trojans (6-1).
* West Rowan's boys topped Southeast 54-28. M.J. Rayner scored 16 points for the Bulldogs (7-0). Marquez McCain had 12 points, and Alexis Archie and Celexus Long scored six apiece.
Rayner and Cody Eagle led the Bulldogs on the boards. Archie, Long and Tyler Poteat sparked the defense.
Harrison Baucom led the Patriots with six points. Brandon Foil scored five.
- North Hills hoops
The North Hills Middle Boys defeated Covenant Classic 34-23 in the second round of the Pac 8 Tournament. Leonard Murdock had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles. Zachary Sukkasem had seven points, and Luke Humble added six.
* The North Hills Middle girls defeated Statesville Montessori 20-16 to win the conference tournament. Natalie Whicker hit key shots and was named tournament MVP. Whicker, Allison VonCanon, Candace-Craig Lyerly, Emily Boggs and Morgan Bowman were named all-stars.
- College baseball
Lefty Rudy Brown (South Rowan) allowed one unearned run in three innings and struck out five to help UNC Pembroke beat Pfeiffer 12-11 on Thursday.
Eric Shoemaker and Julian Medina homered for Pfeiffer.
* The schedule for Catawba's games at Lincoln Memorial this weekend has been adjusted.
The teams now will play a Saturday afternoon doubleheader and a single game on Sunday afternoon.
* Ryan Overcash (NW Cabarrus) pitched six strong innings as Davidson beat Georgetown 11-3.
* Corbin Shive (East Rowan) is scheduled to start on the mound for Charlotte on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Buffalo.
* South Carolina's Whit Merrifield (Davie) scored six runs and batted .364 as the Gamecocks opened the season 3-0.
* Boston College's Philip Miclat (West Rowan) walked and scored against Tulane in his college debut.
- Prep football
Davie junior linebacker Jared Barber has been offered a football scholarship by N.C. State.
Barber led Davie in tackles as a freshman and junior and was second on the team his sophomore year when he missed four games with injuries.
Barber (6-0, 210) told Davie County Enterprise Record reporter Brian Pitts that he's also being recruited by Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Illinois and Kentucky.
Barber's twin brother, Jacob, a quarterback and catcher, recently received a baseball offer from Liberty.
- Prep basketball
Shelby hit East Davidson's girls with a 17-1 run to start the game and eliminated the Golden Eagles from the 2A playoffs with a 75-59 victory on Thursday.
Haley Grimsley scored 16 points for East Davidson, and Stacy Hicks had 15.
Shelby is at home against Thomasville tonight.
* In a 2A boys second-round game postponed to Thursday, Pisgah ousted West Stokes 64-51.
- Rowan Little League
Rowan Little League baseball and softball registrations continue online at http://www.rowanlittleleague.com.
New this year is Pre-T-Ball league for 4-year-olds.
Baseball cost is $40 for Coach Pitch and T-Ball (ages 4-8). Cost is $60 for ages 9-10, 11-12 and $70 for 13-14. League age is as of April 30, 2010.
Softball cost is $40 for girls 8-under Coach Pitch (ages 6-8). Cost is $60 for ages 10U, 12U, 14U League age is as of December 31, 2009.

China Grove youth baseball and softball registrations are still being accepted at Dale's Sporting Goods until March 20.
