Salisbury Academy's Elementary Battle of the Books team joined teams from Greensboro Montessori and Canterbury School, Greensboro, at the Independent Schools Regional Semifinals Competition.

The competition was hosted by Salisbury Academy on March 15. Team members are: Sharmi Amin, Maria Capito, Thomas Cummings, Ivy Overcash, Ethan Stafford and Morgan Warren.

Team coaches are Melissa Brown, school reading specialist, and Angela Graham, media specialist, and the assistant coach is Jo Cummings.

Dr. Karl Hales served as moderator for the semifinals competition. Judges were Erika Kosin (Youth Services, Rowan Public Library), Sherry Barringer and Gavine Pitner. Jo Cummings and Meredith Overcash also served as ushers for the competition.

Salisbury Academy and Canterbury School advanced to the finals which were held at Cannon School on April 13. Salisbury Academy placed fourth in the finals competition. Burlington Day School was named the winner of the Independent Region and will advance to the state level.

This is Salisbury Academy's first Elementary Battle of the Books team, and their first time hosting. Team members were honored at a school wide assembly with the presentation of their trophies.
