Salisbury Academy graduated 16 students from the DARE course on May 4.

Graduates include the following: Isabella Alvarez, Sharmi Amin, Juliana Anderson, Steven Anderson, Ruth Clement, Carter Cook, Thomas Cummings, Madison Day, Mike Hughes, Logan Hunter, Jenny Kribbs, Abby Lee, Jordan McCall, Samantha Pritchard, Morgan Warren, and Katie White.

The ceremony included the students performing the DARE song, "I Will Dare." Each student received a certificate commending them for their completion of the course. Special guests included Salisbury Mayor Susan Kluttz.

Each year, the students write a capstone essay discussing what they will take away from the course and a student is selected for an outstanding essay. This year's DARE essay winner was Sharmi Amin.

DARE is a Drug Abuse Resistance Education course, which is taught by Officer Ann Cooper of the Salisbury Police Department. It is designed to prepare students for how to resist peer pressure and the temptations of drugs and alcohol. It also provides students with knowledge on prescription drugs, over the counter drugs, and smoking and how these drugs affect the students' health.

Students took part in weekly DARE courses beginning in February.
