Small price to pay to help schools

We need to support our schools — the children are our future!

I read the results of your poll about Gov. Bev Perdue’s request to raise the sales tax by 3/4 of a cent and could not believe that over 75 percent of people said no.

What is a measly three-quarters of a cent added to sales tax? It would not even be noticed, and people will still be able to purchase their cigarettes and liquor even with this tiny tax increase.

Start supporting our schools. Those children will be paying for your Social Security!

Food taxed enough

I read in the paper that the governor wants to raise the sales tax. I know that the government needs money, without me going into details.

I do think there are things that should not be taxed, and the main reason I say this is food. To tax food is a disgrace to humanity.

To tax food, you tax adults as well as new-born children.

Food is a necessity of life, and taxing it is wrong. Politics does not care about being wrong.

Greed is the key word. It is a disgrace before God to tax food that people need to survive.

There are three things vital to life: air, water and food.

When will you tax the other two?
