My Turn: Media is unfair to Ron Paul

Why is Congressman Ron Paul constantly downgraded by the media?

Probably because of his comments about our disaster of a Congress and its wasteful spending on foreign aid. They are borrowing money and giving it to many countries that do not want us to be there.

We are in Japan, Italy and Germany even though World War II has been over for 70 years. Congressman Paul is right when he says that this costs the U.S. trillions of dollars that could be used to rebuild our once great country. He is a brilliant physician with a keen sense of reducing the size of our government, and having term limits for judges, congressmen and senators. He also is trying to bring government employees wages and pensions in line with regular U.S. citizens. He thinks all government employees should pay into the Social Security system and not have their own separate system. You, the people, should be aroused by his ideas to bring our country back to greatness.

Ron Paul is against nation building as we are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is against war with Iran. Congress still fails to heed his call for a halt to all foreign aid. What has happened to the billions that have suddenly disappeared in Iraq?

We have been involved in so many wars in our 235 year old nation — the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the War with Mexico over Texas, the Civil War, the Spanish American War, WWI, WWII (England and France’s war), the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Grenada, Kosovo and war in the Middle East. In the war between Iraq and Iran (when Iraq was our ally), the Israelis were selling our arms (shipped to Israel) to Iran, our enemy then.

The media has failed to treat Congressman Paul fairly.

There are more Israelis in the United States than there are in Israel. Ron Paul has constantly called for the elimination of all foreign aid while the congressional Democrats and Republicans criticize him for this. The Israelis claim that we must defend them, but they are planning an attack on Iran.

If we are to survive as an independent and great nation, we must cut our overall support of Israel, which is the most powerful nation in the Middle East. America has provided military aid to Israel, including sophisticated weapons from our arsenal. Also, Israel has 500 nuclear warheads. Ron Paul is the only Republican who has demanded the elimination of aid to Israel. It is as if pro-Israeli interests control the United States, and I think they do.

We must recognize Ron Paul as a patriot who wants to change Israel’s hold on the United States. The outrage is that many people living in Israel are allowed to vote in our elections due to dual citizenship in the United States and Israel. If we are independent, then it is time to throw off the chains of Israel.

We no longer should sacrifice our young people in foreign wars. You, the people, are in charge. It is time for a profound change.
