Thanks to Rowan Rescue Squad for being ‘all in’

I would like to thank the members of the Rowan County Rescue Squad for their dedication. The journey to bring Vincent Anderson home began about two weeks ago, when Coyt Karriker was contacted to seek help for this family.

Coyt’s first response was “we’re all in.” He also went beyond the call and attempted to find air transportation from San Antonio to Salisbury; all of those options were too costly.

There were a lot of hands working on this mission, and they need recognition for their work. Eddie Cress and Daniel Ross worked alongside Chief Karriker to make the plans. The crew on the trip are Tamara Earnhardt, Kristin Estep, Derek Tilley and Dell Blevins.

As a citizen of Rowan County, I want you to know that we are proud of you. May God bless each of you for this act of kindness and dedication.

Use N.C. workers for DNC

The Democratic National Convention is slated to come to Charlotte in September 2012, bringing upwards of 40,000 delegates, media representatives and visitors with it. This event provides a much needed economic boost to our state. As a member of the North Carolina Senate, I understand the struggles of our state’s small businesses and unemployed workers.

However, the DNC appears poised to offer the vendor and construction contracts to out-of-state union labor. North Carolina bears the financial and infrastructure burden, but our workforce is overlooked for the Democrats’ union supporters. The DNC should give these opportunities to North Carolina workers, when qualified, and support our local labor force.

The North Carolina House of Representatives adopted a non-binding resolution urging the DNC to rely on North Carolina workers for convention contracts. I will introduce the Senate version and call upon my Senate colleagues to join me in supporting our state’s small businesses.
