What about Discovery Place
for Rowan County’s kids?
As Lowes would say, “Let’s build something together.” After reading the article in the Jan. 9 Salisbury Post on the Discovery Place Kids , I thought this would be a great idea for the people of Rowan County to support. This museum is a prototype for four or five other museums that Discovery Place Kids hopes to build in the Charlotte region during the next decade. Funds are being raised for a similar museum in Rockingham already, according to the Jan. 11 Charlotte Observer.
Community leaders in Rockingham, a city of 10,000 about an hour east of Charlotte, have led a year-long fundraising blitz that has reaped nearly $10 million. Overall, the goal is to raise $14.6 million for the center, which will be patterned after Discovery Place. As a community we can partner with Discovery Place, Inc. to construct the building. This type of learning center would be a great asset and work well with Horizons Unlimited, Dan Nicholas Park, The N.C. Transportation Museum, Rowan Museum and WaterWorks Visual Art Center.
We have the opportunity to build a satellite of Charlotte’s Discovery Place attraction right here in our community. We could have various corporate sponsors such as Food Lion, Cheerwine, Power Curbers, and F&M Bank. Discovery Place Kids-Salisbury, Rowan County. As Home Depot might say “We can do it. You can help.”

Some things can’t be replaced
Like many others who are going through tough times, my husband and I are struggling with both health and economic hardships. To add to life’s problems, on Nov. 21, I unfortunately left my pocketbook on top of my car and started off to the grocery store. When I arrived there, I discovered my pocketbook was missing, and I remembered where I had left it. I immediately called for help, and with others, we searched Old Mocksville Road without any success.
All of my personal items are gone — jewelry, photos, medicine, insurance cards, Social Security cards, credit cards, license etc. Many are items that can never be replaced.
Please, if you found my purse or know anything about it, contact the Sheriff’s Office. You are not guilty of taking it, just guilty of not returning it. No charges will be filed.
Please find a decent, warm spot in your heart and do what is right. Depression has overcome. God bless you.
