Hire our Heroes event Nov. 17 in Concord

CONCORD — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the military-to-civilian recruitment firm RecruitMilitary will collaborate on a hiring event for military veterans at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord on Nov. 17.

The Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expo will be part of a nationwide initiative to increase the hiring of veterans by producing special career fair hiring events.

The local expo will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Speedway Club.

The RecruitMilitary-U.S. Chamber initiative will help corporate America respond to a challenge issued on Aug. 5 by President Barrack Obama. Speaking at the Washington Navy Yard, the president challenged businesses to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses by the end of 2013.

On March 24, the U.S. Chamber had already launched “Business Steps Up: Hiring Our Heroes,” a yearlong effort to help veterans and their spouses find employment by means of veteran hiring events. The U.S. Chamber has scheduled more than 100 Hiring Our Heroes events across the nation through March.

Sevel employers are scheduled to attend, including Albemarle Corporation, CA Technologies, city of Winston-Salem Police Department, DeVry University, First Command Financial Planning, Gardner-Webb University, Georgia School of Construction and Grand Canyon University.
