Time Warner Cable has announced a new Internet download speed for the Charlotte area that is twice as fast as Fibrant.

A Time Warner spokesman told the Post the company’s higher speeds are not in response to Fibrant, the city of Salisbury’s new fiber optic utility.

The city officially launched Fibrant on Monday.

Time Warner’s new speeds were available starting Tuesday.

The cable giant’s new download speed can reach 50 megabits per second, twice as fast as Fibrant’s 25 Mbps.
