Everhart again mayor in Spencer

Jody Everhart won re-election as the mayor of Spencer in a close race.

In unofficial results, Everhart garnered 285 votes, while challenger Jon Palmer trailed with 213 votes.

Everhart said he hopes he and the town board can accomplish several things in the upcoming term, some of which will carry over from the current board's goals.

"We need to stabilize the library, look at front-yard parking, plan safe routes to school and use the planning workshop to set more goals," Everhart said.

In the Board of Aldermen race, incumbent Donnie Hinson and Reid Walters tied, bringing in 304 votes each.

"It's going to be a ride," said Hinson. "We need to bring businesses back into the town, which will bring employment."

Hinson said he feels confident the three new board members will fit well into Spencer's agenda.

Walters hopes to bring a new and fresh perspective to the board.

"I hope to bring another voice into the board, and raise more questions that need to be raised," he said. "Spencer will need to do a lot in the next couple of years, including cleaning up parts of residential Spencer." Walters also hopes to finish the library renovations.

Scott Benfield and Jeff Morris, both incumbents, won a new term on the board with only 10 votes separating them. Newcomers Tracy Aitken and Delaine Fowler beat out incumbent candidates Clifford Spear and David Smith.

Benfield, Morris, Aitken, Fowler, Benfield and Smith could not be reached for comment.
