SALISBURY — Food Lion, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Speedway Children’s Charities are partnering to fight hunger.
Customers who purchase a “Hunger Has a Cure” food box at Food Lion will receive $10 off any race ticket for the Oct. 14-15 Bank of America 500 race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The food boxes are $4.99 and are comprised of products to help feed the hungry. The products in the box include tuna, green beans, cereal, macaroni and cheese, long grain white rice and chicken noodle soup.
“As part of Hunger Action Month, we are pleased to unveil this partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway to help alleviate hunger in the Charlotte market,” said Bill Garcia, community relations manager for Food Lion.
The boxes are sold at-cost and all product purchased by customers is donated to local area food banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
“While we typically launch this program in November, we decided to make it available to Charlotte area Food Lion stores early this year to showcase the partnering organization’s commitment to charitable causes, including feeding the hungry,” Garcia said.
To participate in the Charlotte Motor Speedway promotion, customers may pre-purchase the Food Lion Hunger Has a Cure box, which will be automatically donated by participating Charlotte area stores once box inventories arrive in early November.
To receive the $10 off a race ticket, patrons can take their specially marked Food Lion receipt to the box office at Charlotte Motor Speedway to receive the discount.
Boxes may be purchased through Saturday to receive the discount. There is a limit (1) $10 discount per race ticket per (1) Hunger Has A Cure Food Box.
“Hunger affects countless numbers of families in our region, and we’re proud through Speedway Children’s Charities to partner with Food Lion on this effort,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “We want Food Lion customers and race fans to know they can support a good cause in our community and enjoy a spectacular race weekend while doing it.”
For more information, customers may visit their local Charlotte Food Lion store or for details on the race ticket discount, they may contact Charlotte Motor Speedway at 800-455-FANS.
