The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees accepted Richard Daryl Cox as a new member at its September board meeting. Cox was recently appointed by the Rowan County Board of Commissioners to serve on the board through 2016.
"I am so pleased to get to work more closely with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. I believe in the good work that they're doing, and I'm excited to develop a stronger relationship with the college and its mission in the community through this appointment," said Cox.
Cox is a longtime resident of Salisbury, employed by the Division of Employment Security. Cox, originally from Knoxville, Tenn., moved to North Carolina in 1973 to attend Pfeiffer University. Cox has nine years of IT experience beginning as a project officer for Y2K compliance with the military. He retired with 35 years combined enlisted and officer experience from the North Carolina Air National Guard (USAF) with the rank of captain. He is also a past chairman of the Headquarters and Employees Committee, North Carolina Air National Guard.
"I feel that Rowan-Cabarrus is vital to Rowan and Cabarrus counties in the advancement of our workforce and the enrichment of our communities," said Cox. "Working together, we can make this an even better place in which to live and work."
Cox holds both a bachelor's of science in social studies and secondary education, as well as a master's in business administration and health administration from Pfeiffer University. In his free time, Cox also serves as a small group facilitator for his church and sings in the choir. They have one son, Todd Cox of High Point.
"We welcome our new trustee. Cox has past experience working for Stanly Community College in their Student Success Center. We expect he will have much to add to our vibrant board," said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of the college.
Rowan-Cabarrus Board of Trustees members are responsible for attending all board meetings and key Rowan-Cabarrus events. As a board they are responsible for college policies.
