Horizons Unlimited schedule of planetarium

Horizons Unlimited is offering a number of planetarium and laser shows through the following months in its Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium.

The planetarium is located at 1636 Parkview Circle. Park and enter in the back of the building accessible from Lilly Avenue. For more information, contact the planetarium at 704-639-3004.

• Aug. 21, 5 p.m. — Planetarium Show – Cosmic Collisions, Collisions transform.

Everywhere in the universe, collisions smash things apart, bring them together and leave planets, stars and galaxies very different that they were before. Join us at the Margaret C Woodson Planetarium Saturday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. for a look at these amazing forces as we experience, “Cosmic Collisions.” This program was produced at the American Museum of Natural History and is narrated by Robert Redford.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• Sept. 18, 5 p.m. — Planetarium Show – The Lives of Stars

What are supernovas? Do black holes exist? How are stars classified and what are the brightest stars in our sky. Find out the answers to these and many other questions. Watch supernovas explode, visit nebulas, experience the death of a star like our Sun.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• Oct. 16, 5 p.m. — Laser Show – Fright Light

Prepare yourself for an “intense and exciting experience of laser light.” The Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium will show Fright Light Saturday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. This Halloween-themed show entertains with images set to popular music by artists such as Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Charlie Daniels Band, Oingo Boingo, Alice Cooper and others.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under. Viewer discretion advised: Younger audience members may find some images frightening.

• Oct. 16, 7 p.m. — Rock Laser Show – Laser Vinyl

Remember the days when you bought an album as much for the cover art as for the music ... the days of vinyl? Then this laser show is for you. Rock on with solid hits from bands like Journey, Boston, Kansas, Van Halen and many more from the ’70s and ’80s!

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. Viewer discretion advised: Some songs may contain lyrics and images inappropriate for young children.

• Nov. 20, 5 p.m. — Planetarium Show – History of Spaceflight

From ancient Chinese rockets to Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the Shuttle; from the science fiction of Jules Verne to the reality of exploring distant planets, the History of Spaceflight takes you on a journey of remembrance and discovery. Learn of the remarkable vision of rocket pioneer Wernher von Braun and other gifted individuals who worked in the early 1950s to lay the first serious plans for space travel.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• Dec. 18, 5 p.m. — Family Laser Show – Laser Holidays

Join us at the Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium for a heartwarming program of favorite holiday music and laser light images that will enhance your family’s celebration of the season. Young and old will delight to the sounds of Sleigh Ride, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bell Rock, Frosty the Snowman, and more.

Admission $3 for adults, $2 for children, 12 and under. Tickets on sale 30 minutes prior to show time.

• Dec. 18, 7 p.m. — Rock Laser Show – Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”

Pink Floyd fans will not want to miss this opportunity to view “The Wall” at the Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium. This laser show will feature all your favorites from the album including: “Another Brick in the Wall,” “Goodbye Blue Sky,” “Mother,” “In the Flesh,” “The Happiest Days of Our Lives” and others set to full-color, full-dome laser graphic images and designs.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children, 12 and under.

• Jan. 15, 5 p.m. — Planetarium Show – Constellations Tonight

Is it a big dipper, a drinking gourd, a plough or a bear? There are 88 official constellations in the sky, but most people can only find one or two. This live sky, interactive program will teach constellations, bright stars and planet positions. Stories from various cultures will be shared and each guest will receive a star map.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• Feb. 19, 5 p.m. — Planetarium Show – The Planets

Journey on an exciting tour of the Solar System narrated by Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek: Voyager. Take a look at each planet closely, see how the solar system was formed, and travel with various spacecraft throughout our Solar System. Produced by the Southeastern Planetarium Association.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• March 19, 5 p.m. — Family Laser Show – Laser Country

• March 19, 7 p.m. — Rock Laser Show - Hypnotica

New Show; Never Shown in Salisbury. Join us for a dynamic techno/laser dance show experience featuring selections from Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Delerium, Crystal Method and more. This body-shaking laser experience has pulsing beats, dazzling lights and incredibly imagery.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under.

• April 16, 5 p.m. — Planetarium Show – The Mars Story

The Red Planet – a mystery and curiosity to people of all ages. Discover The Mars Story from man’s earliest discoveries and science fiction fascinations to the latest revealing images.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• May 21, 5 p.m. — Family Laser Show – Laser Spirit

Celebrate the USA with patriotic music and full-color light images. This is a moving, beautiful, fast-paced laser light experience. Artists include: Lee Greenwood, Aaron Copeland, The Beatles, Kansas and others. This program is geared toward the entire family.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for guests 12 and under.

• May 21, 7 p.m. — Rock Laser Show – Laser U2

Spend an evening with the instrumental sounds of Bono and his band. Enjoy some of your favorite U2 songs including: “Beautiful Day,” “The Fly,” “With or Without You,” “New Year’s Day,” “Where the Streets Have No Name” and more.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $5 for adults, $3for students 12 and under.
